Dale City, Va. (AP) - Bud the dog is nothing if not a survivor.

He's 13, deaf and spends most of his time inside. So when he ran away from his Dale City home January 29th - right before a snowstorm - his family prepared for the worst.

They spent a week searching for him, but were supposed to leave for Florida. So they put a note on their front door offering a reward and listing their cell phone number.

Sure enough, two girls walking near a retention pond heard Bud whining behind a fence. They rescued him, fed him, then called the phone number on his collar. After leaving a message, they got one of their moms to drive them to the address on the collar, where they found the note and called the owners.

They'll be reunited with Bud when they get home Saturday. The neighbors who usually dog-sit are now watching Bud.

    Poor dear boy

Aw, poor Bud. I'm glad he was found & cared for.I don't
think I could have left town with my dog missing.Probably
would have sent the family and stayed behind to find him.
