    Pics after the Deluge

You likely have heard about the flooding here in RI, especially in a city named Warwick. Historic flooding, well over the 100 year flood plain. Last week, we had more than 9 inches of rain in 12 hours, and more than 16 inches in 3 days. My house is fine, most of the heavy damage is about 8 miles south of us.

If interested, you can see pics of the flooding here:

You quickly run out of adjectives to describe the mess. Many hundreds of homes are condemned because at its peak, the flooding waters shut down the sewerage treatment plant in the area, so raw sewerage was in the buildings. Businesses lost everything, including the Warwick Mall, putting many more folks out of work.

We do have some pics of the flooding impact for us. I will give some before and after shots, of the new walk we take at Brigham Farm Conservation area:

We took our friends, Nancy and her miniature poodle, Teddy to show them this lovely walk, this past Saturday. This is 4 days after the rains stopped!

Before – notice the white fence -- and Marlin, of course!

    After - Marlin again

Before – see the nice dirt path?

After - Marlin, Lacey, Teddy in the background

    Our friend, Teddy

We went there again yesterday (Monday Apr 5) and the water really has not gone down much at all. Now today? We won’t be going as . . . it is raining again!

Stand by, just a few more coming right up!

The rain did a nice thing, though. The grasses are all greening up, and the Spring flowers have all “popped!” open. Front yard:

Sorry for the mess, I am weeding the front gardens. I took these pics this morning, as you can see the sun was out (there are shadows!) but not any longer.

It is nice to see the flowers after the long winter, and the deluge of last week!

It is so great that on pettalk I get to see so many parts of the country and everyone's weather and impacts. Your home and flowers are beautiful, that water would really scare me!

Water can be quite powerful. Many folks got back into their homes for the first time over the weekend. They found ranges in the middle of the kitchen floor, on its SIDE! And washers and dryers located across the cellars and tipped over as well. Ripped right off the water pipes, which were all bent and twisted.

Still several sections where they are not yet allowing folks back home.

I watched that video from the Projo a few days ago. I'm originally from Warwick, and it had me in tears.

The number of roads that were closed; shutting down of major sewage treatment plants; the muck that is left behind. Truly an epic disaster.

    Oooh, pretty flowers!

That sucks the rain has started again. We had massive flooding in Findlay my freshman year of high school. Everything was just a mess.

Like Gretchen, I was born and raised in Warwick. We lived only a few miles apart, but didn't know each other back then.

Seeing those pictures of my old hometown, was really heartbreaking. This is something that I would think could never happen in that area, but there it was. I've been thru a couple of hurricanes up there, but never anything like this. What a tragedy!!!

Sandie - glad that you are okay!!!

You folks got hit harder than we did. NH had a lot of flooding, but not as bad as you. When I heard 95 was closed, I couldn't believe it. Glad your house didn't get a wet basement. Flowers are pretty.
