    Hamsters Claws

    Hi,

Please help me. My hamster always lets my check his feet and I was wondering how do I know if his claws are to long?

    Thanks...

I never remember Foxy's claws ever getting too long, but I would say that if they are scratching you quite regularly when you handle him or if perhaps Whisk walks a little differently because of them, then they're too long. I cut Tia's claws about every 2-3 months with nail scissors. You do have to be very careful when you do it though not to catch the quick and their toes, it's probably best to get someone else to hold them whilst you do it.

If they are curling over then they are to long. I would suggest going to a vet and having him or her showing you how to do it properly.

Looks like its a trip to the vets soon

I think I hate the vets more then my pets do!!!

Nut and Egg have both had mites and Egg has had a tumor before (That meant vet trips )...

Vets always either bring bad news, unless its something minor like a clip of the nails etc. But even though it SHOULD just be a quick and easy visit I still hate it!

    Good luck at the vets!
On question: does Whisk usually run on a wheel? I heard that the wheel keeps their nails trimmed down if the run on it often.
Thank you so much for my siggy, kittycats_delight!

He does....... lets just say... not the way most hamsters do!

Its in a corner so he climbs... ON TOP of the wheel resting his bottom on the bars and he will run... ON TOP of the wheel

Vets can also save their lives

I don't think the wheel keep them trim as I still have to clip my hams naisl from tiem to tiem and they mostly all run like mad.
