    Color Blind

I found out that this kid in my class is color blind. I don't know why but to me that seems really sad, I would hate to be color blind, colors are beautiful and that's sad that he'll never be able to see them or know what they look like. Is anyone on PT colorblind?

I have a couple uncles who are color blind. Being color blind doesn't necesserilarily mean you can't see color. My uncles just see colors much differently than others. It really doesn't bother them much. It's what's normal to them and what they've lived with all their lives

I'm with RubyMutt..My mom is kinda color blind, but she still sees colors, but sometimes she says something is like blue when its not..but its not that different from blue so I duno. Also, they'd be born with it and would never know the difference to be upset about it

The other day he thought I was wearing a blue shirt, it was pink.......I know he doesn't really know what he's missing out on, but I still think it's sad. Also I was talking about it with him, and I think he can't see any color at all.

HERE'S a good site explaining color deficiency. It also has some good examples of how color blind people see. It is possible for people to see in only white, black, & grays, but it's a very rare condition.

My hubby's cousin (female) is totally color blind. She was telling me a bit about it, and her story was fascinating, and yet so hard to identify with. All the things you miss out on in life.

Rubymutt, I just checked out that website, and it's totally fascinating!! Thanks for the link!

My dad is color blind, he can't tell the difference between red and green, I think. He knows when to stop and go by the position of the lights in the stop-lights, not their colors.

My dad is color blind too. He sees white, shades brown and grey. And very clearly sees Burgendy, for some reason. He loves that color.

Yupperz ~ Dad's got some color blindness!

He's "deficient" in both Red and Green...
    enough so that we:

    * Pull over for Tow Trucks and Snow Plows with flashing YELLOW lights;
    * STOP at rural intersections with just a single flashing light...
    .. somebody's got a RED flasher; and somebody's got a YELLOW flasher -
.. Question is WHO's got which color???
.. WE alluz *stop*. An get *honked* at when ours wuz Yeller!
    * Get reel SUPPRIZED when we drive through a strange town at night -
.. and what Dad wuz POZITIVE wuz a "White Street Light" sudddenly
.. starts turning Yellow, then Red!
    * Often walk up and try to unlock the WRONG car in the lot...
    * Buy ONLY *black* socks (AFTUR askin a clerk IF they're *black*)

And the list goes on an on...

I once did a mass recruitment job for cable TV installers, and did the Ishihara colour blindness test on the candidates. It was trippy watching some of the candidates not being able to see the numbers in the dotted pictures. About one in 75 were red/green deficient and didn't know until we suggested they see a specialist. We couldn't offer those guys jobs because they couldn't tell the colours of electrical cables and could have killed themselves.
