Thread: What would you recommend?

    What would you recommend?

I know there have probably been tons of topics about this and I'm sorry

I finally got my mom to realize that I didn't want to buy from Iams anymore. (apparently they treat their dogs bad and their food has no real nutrient ect...you guys know it for sure ) so she said as soon as we finish his huge bag of Iams, we're going to be getting him something more 'natural'. What would you guys recommend? I don't think Mickey would like anything like the BARF diet...

Any suggestions would be really appreciated! Thank you!

Ive found Nutro to be a great food. It is the only dry food Daisy and Molly would eat. They used to eat iams, but then I found out how bad the food was, so I switched them both over to Nutro. And they love it! So, I recommend Nutro!

I tried a few different foods before switching kai to barf. Wellness was a wonderful food that Kai really loved. He didn't even mind me using it as treats. And it doesn't have the traditional "doggie food" smell. Another one he like was Canidae. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. The last food Kai was on before switching was Nutro Max. It seemed alright. Kai wasn't on it long enough to notice any differences but I'm sure a few pettalkers would say it's a wonderful food.

I've used both Nutro Natural Choice as well as Royal Canin Natural Blend Holistic and would recommend both foods. I think Nutro is great and not badly priced either. I now use the Royal Canin just because Nebo likes it better, and the ingredients are slightly better.

Our food, California Natural, is on Amy's list, and we have been very satisfied with it.

I've been using Science Diet and mix in some Eukenuba Large Breed(Horse FOOd), lol!! MAx likes it. Sometimes, I'll mix in a can of canned food.

    Re: What would you recommend?

If you like Iams, stick with it.
They severed their relations with the lab that was
in question with mistreatment of animals.

I use (human grade) Canidae for Sheba and Rocky and
    Pepper likes Purina One.
I use to use Nutro's Natural lamb and rice and
Sheba did fantastic on it, but Rocky
would spit up, so they have been on
    Canidae for about 2 years.
Their are a lot of good foods out their,
learn to read some of the first few ingredients which
    are the most important.

Shiloh was on Wellness Super 5 Lamb and loved it, but she loved it too much and put on more weight. Now she is on Canidae Platinum Diet for senior and/or overweight dogs. She also loves it. She seems to be losing a little weight. I like both brands.

    Thanks everyone!

Karen, knowing that they are not mistreating their animals is great, but my mom spoke with the pet store clerk and he said Iams has no real nutrient and is mostly all fake...I don't know how to describe it. He put it well, I forgot what he said though.

I'll probably be looking into Nutro...but it depends on what they have here. Usually they only carry Eukanuba, Purina, Iams and Vet Diet. (we already have two bags of those. We get it free each time we buy a cage )

If you can't find nutro, would your mom be willing to buy it online? Some sites have fairly good prices and what better than delivering straight to your door.

I know what you mean by "no real nutrients". I'd prefer Kai to get everything he needs in a more natural way rather than with 30 long words that I can't even pronounce.
