Yet another thread with stunning horses

As some of you might remember, I frequently visit horse breeders websites online, literally drool at all the beautiful horses for sale, and then come here and share some of my favorites. I haven't done this for a while now, so it's about time!

    ~*~

Afire Bey V is a stunning Arabian stallion, his website can be found here. Here's some pics:

I know I've posted pics of Andalusians before, but today I stumbled upon this website. Take a look:

Well, that'll do for now! Hope you all enjoyed them

Very beautiful horses!! I still wish I had Babe I miss her so much!
She was a very wonderful horse. My husband said I can get another horse in the future when we get our land cleared out that we own and fence it and stuff like that. I can't wait. But it probably will be another couple of years. Maybe I'll be able to own two. My next dream horse is a Arabian/Paint Cross.

Ann, I always love to see photos of beautiful horses especially in the winter when I don't get to ride.
If you like looking up horses maybe you could help me find out what kind of horse played Shadowfax in The Lord of the Rings II?
I am so in love with that horse and I have done a couple of searches online and can't find out what his breed or name is. Can you help?

    Glad you liked the pics

Vermontcat, I have yet to see that movie so I didn't know there was such a focus on the horses, but I did search around and came up with this paragraph:

Fellowship Of The Ring featured several horses, from the coal-black breed the Ringwraiths rode to Arwen's white steed. None of those can compare to Shadowfax, Gandalf's trusty snow-white Andalusian (the breed Carousel horses are modeled after) who emerges as a distinct character. A horse from Rohan, Shadowfax is presented to Gandalf by King Theoden and is thought to possess amazing intuition.

So, according to that site Shadowfax is an Andalusian. I also found several more sites about Shadowfax and pretty much all of them stated that he was of that breed. Here is another example:

To create the army of horses used by the Rohan people, horse coordinator Steve Old held "auditions" all across the country of New Zealand. His search yielded breeds of all types, with owners travelling for hours with their horse and trailer to the audition.

The two horses chosen to play Shadowfax, the majestic white horse on whose back Gandalf the White makes his first appearance, were of the Andalusian breed.

A stable was set up outside Wellington with 75 core horses being housed and train. The open-door policy for actors to come and ride any time of day or night paid off. Cast members such as Mortensen, Tyler and Bloom rode for leisure, even on their days off. Mortensen developed such a close bond with his horse that he purchased it from its owner.

In some scenes, the production used as many as 250 horses at once- side by side riding on New Zealand terrain. The resulting image possesses a realism that can't be duplicated digitally.

Horse technical advisors Lyle Edge and John Scott, whose work includes such films as Unforgiven and Legends of the Fall, were on location to help orchestrate and choreograph the complicated riding and battle sequences.

Tim Abbot and his team made 70 saddles by hand especially for the production. Each of these saddles are embossed and carved with Middle-earth history and were also aged and painted for authenticity.

I thought it was very sweet that Viggo Mortensen bought his horse even! He was my favorite actor in the original movie so that's even cooler

Here's some pics I found of him (he IS pretty!):

And you can find a great page with tons of pics of Shadowfax here http://www.theargonath.cc/characters...owfaxpics.html.

    Hope that helped

    Thanks Ann!
You found some great photos too!
I had done some more searching since I posted and found out that it was an Andalusian and a little more info here...
    http://www.theonering.net/features/e...lusives14.html

That is very interesting that Viggo kept his horse, they really did seem bonded in the movie-some great scenes together, you must see the movie!
From the link you can see that his horse was not for sale but one of the Shadowfax's was and one of Legolas' horses as well as the 9 black horses.
I am still curious what breed the black horses were, the link seemed to think Arabian.
Thank you for the info! Let me know if you find out anything new.

I watched a special hour-long behind the scenes of the making of the second LOTR movie today, and there was an adorable scene of Viggo's horse rubbing against his shoulder. They also showed Viggo riding his horse even on his day off, so yeah I would safely said they bonded quite well (aaawww)
