We often notice trends in Dog and Cat names in particular, though also in other pets. Names like Max, Bailey, Roxy or Tigger or Buddy - and I often wonder if vet offices ever get mixed up, or they use just a pet's last name for the record!
Yes
No
Kind of - have met more than one other with this name
Yes, but it came with this name, so I use a nickname
I don't know

I've Been Frosted
One funny thing - we usually tried to give unique names, but when we named Gracie, officially Grace, the Princess of Grace, we kind of didn't realize how close her name would be to the girl across the street, Tracy! We'd call, "Gracieee!!!" and several times in warm weather we'd hear Tracy hollering back, "What??" thinking it was one of her sisters calling her!
I've Been Frosted
All of my furkids have had 'people' names, with the exception of RB Sassy.
I've had Casey, Ginger, Corey, Lacey, Mandy, Layla ,Jake, Missy, Angel and Tessa.
Tessa's real name is Contessa.
I suppose Ginger is considered a 'people' name.
Forever in my heart...
Casey.Ginger.Corey.Mandy.Sassy
Lacey.Angel.Missy.Jake.Layla
Wolfy = Wolfgang - so a yes there
The kitties - Luke Leia, Harley, Misty, but a no for Pepper
RB Pets:
Myndi - of course
Sparky - don't know of anyone with that name.
Mortimer - cat
Sam - cat
Suki - cat - could be someone's name
Ming - cat - doubtful as a common name
Cinnamon - dog - a no there
Muffin - dog - another no
Peanut - cat - no again
Rocky - cockatiel - of course
Spook - cat - nope
Snuffy - cat - no to that
Tai - dog - yup
Bear - dog - doubtful
Scooter - dog - nope
Sherbie - cat - nope
O.C. - cat - not hardly
All of those RB pets have been in my life at some point in the last 50 years. No wonder there's so many holes in my heart.

Two of mine do.
Felicia
Cleo- short for Cleopas, a name found in the Bible.

A couple of mine have names I've heard before, but I wouldn't say they are common. Jax, Zoee, Taz
The unique ones are Taggart (even though there are two others here on PT!! ), Paizly and Zeplyn.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.
Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!
Cindy (Human) - Taz (RB Tabby) - Zoee (RB Australian Shepherd) - Paizly (Dilute Tortie) - Taggart (Aussie Mix) - Jax (Brown & White Tabby), - Zeplyn (Cattle Dog Mix)
LOL, Edward is a common name, but it's his FULL name that gets people to laugh.
When Ed is boarded or goes to the vet, they always announce him as "Edward D Katz".
People always get a huge laugh at that,
From oldest to youngest -
Reese - 'cause I thought she looked like a rhesus monkey when I first saw her.
Abby - who actually has 5 names - Mary Alice Abigail Cyd Charisse. We chose Abby from her picture, but her foster kids had called her Alice from the movie Alice in Wonderland. Then, when those long slender legs came out of the carrier, I could only think of the dancer Cyd Charisse. She responds to any and/or all of the names
Grady - started out as Little Gray - and then he grew and grew and grew - thus we dropped the Little.
Charley - just because
I have seen a few other animals with Peatree's name, but not with the same spelling. Most of them spell it Petrie. (Pea came with her name)
I've only seen one or two others with the name Jester.... (Jester came with his name)
I haven't seen any other animals named Dobby.
I've seen one other animal named Bellatrix.
I've seen lots of animals named Honey and Precious. (They came with their names)
I haven't met any other animals named Harper, but it seems like a common name.
My angel birdies were Hermione, which I've seen three other animals with the name name. Devynn, I've seen other animals named that but not with the same spelling. Dudley, haven't seen another with his name. Jacob, very common. And Weasley, which I have never met another animal with that name.
Spook/Spooky is a common name for black animals, especially cats. Spook earned her name, though.
Isis I found is a common name for cats as well. She's picked up a few nicknames since we've had her though such as Spicy cat, Space ball and a few others that aren't too terribly polite.
Not sure how many hamsters (or other critters for that matter) are named Rodney but it seemed to fit his personality so the name stuck.
1-CK Cooper (no, I will not spell out CK, we were young and the cat was all white).
2-Jamara
3-Pinot Noir Cooper (or Princess Pinot, Queen of the household)
I thought it meant does your pet have a human name. Inky and Shadow are both common names for black pets.

When John named our orange boy Fister, I said, no we can't call him that, but it stuck and I got used to it. I suppose Fister is the equivalent of Buster in the US.

My mom had her good grey wool and cashmere coat on when she found out I had adopted a kitty, and since the kitty was also grey, Cashmere seemed an appropriate name. Shortened to "Cassie" and there are at least two other pets with the name Cassie on PT. One black cat and one beautiful Dalmatian who helped her mom's students learn about the number 101! My other choice for her name was Pepper, which is also common.
