    Meet Mercedes...

... yes. I failed to live without a little rattie in my life for more than a week.

My room was very empty without Flossie in it, and I was at first hesitant about getting another due to my university commitments. However, because of all the joy my rats have given me over the years, there really was no question about it.

I brought home little Mercedes, or Mercy as she is known, this evening. She's a little banded husky girl with huge paws and ears that she hasn't yet grown into! Already she's into everything and is loving her huge cage to run around in.

I was nearly moved to tears when I held her for the first time, as she sat very quietly in my hand and vibrated as if she had chosen me - exactly what both Tia and Flossie did before her. I know both of them would have approved.

Here are a few pics. I'm posting this in a bit of a rush so I hope to update soon with more.

Goodness gracious she is lovely! Welcome, Mercedes! I hope your momma saw today's Pet of the Day, too!

Oh, and how do you pronounce your name? Is it merSAYdees or MERsaydees? I have known human girls with your name who pronounced it each way!

I've gone for merSAYdees, like the car.

We did see today's POTD, although Mercy is quite convinced that the computer screen is scary and wouldn't look for too long.

    Thanks, Karen!

She's beautiful. Congrats on your new addition.

I'm just curious though as to why you only ever get just 1 rattie.. Its usually recommended that you have at least 2 because rats are social and prefer having another one around to play with..
She appears young enough that they probably had a sibling or something that you could get as a friend for her.

What a dear little face. I love the pic of her on her hind legs with her mouth opened partially. So happy for you that you got another little friend.

Thanks everyone. She's getting braver and more curious by the day, and in many ways, her personality reminds me a lot of my little Tia. I'll work on getting some better pictures of her to post.

@ Molucass: She in particular is a single rattie as she'll be cared for by my family for periods of time whilst I'm away at university. Getting another rat was something I was only prepared to do if it was suitable for all parties involved, and having the two would not have fitted that. Having been a keeper of single rats for some years now, I can appreciate how important it is to socialise them, and whenever there were people in the house, they were out and about and interacting with us. I couldn't stand to see them get lonely.
