Does anyone else put boiled eggs in their steak pie? I have a friend who puts all the steak mixture in the dish, then presses however many halved hard boiled eggs it takes into the mixture round the edges of the dish, then puts the pastry on top.

Richard! There is a Christmas cracker in that picture! I was under the impression they were unknown in the States.

Boiled eggs are good in meatloaf. You put them down the middle.

My mom always put boiled eggs in a meatloaf. If you boil them way to hard they add a little green to the loaf

I was trying not to mention Nigella ...

Where did you find that link?????!!!! Toilet tissue??? What on earth is that? Please allow me to assure you that nothing from the toilet is allowed on my dinner table!!

To continue ... Christmas crackers are a tradition here, on the table on Christmas Day. Everyone gets one, and they contain a small gift, a paper hat (which all the oldies like to wear), and one of the worst jokes of all time.

Sara, some of those folks on the "other side of the pond" put things like, UGH, innards.. and make a wierd "beef, heart, liver & kidney" pie But then they also eat weird things like whatever that moooshed up stuff is they put on toast. Weird Sorry guys, I'll stick to my Scrapple (which by the way is made of pig parts ) JUST KIDDING!!! Well, not about the pig parts

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise steak pie was "local" to us! The filling is a bit like a thick stew. Do you know stew? A casserole perhaps. Chunks of steak, tasty gravy, and as Laurie says, Steak and Kidney is very popular too, but steak pie doesn't need to have kidney in it. The whole thing is topped off with a flaky pastry and is absolutely wonderful!

  14. So it is chicken pot pie (which I am making tonight for dinner) only with steak instead of chicken and maybe kidneys! Is that kidneys (as in water filtration) or kidney beans?
