Why do dogs roll around in peed on grass???

I have noticed that one of my dog seems to sniff out where another dog has peed on grass, and then rolls on her back over that grass. It makes her stink!

Is this normal? Does anyone know why she does this

Yes this is nomal. Rember dogs are part of the wolf famliy. Dogs roll in peed on grass for many resons. one and most common is there's a sent in the grass or in the peed, bhut it might be there femal.(males do this more than femals, is rare for femals to do this) There is a lot of reson's for this.

Yea, I would say the number one reason for rolling in pee (or stool) and eating stool, is to claim their "territory." Don't worry, it is completely normal, just like them peeing in their spots around their walking area's.

I agree. It's a territorial thing. Male cats will spray over other cats' markings for the same reason.

It's very normal. It's from the wolf ancestor. I think it is known as another way of marking territory.

Yes, this is normal. When I worked at Wolf Park during my college days, we were told that the wolves do this type of behavior in order to bring information back to the pack. It is called "scent rolling". It's also not only limited to foul smelling odors. They tried different types of scents on the ground in the enclosure, and the wolves rolled on all of them!

Yes this is normal for dogs. They do it to claim territory as others have said. My gramdma's dog rolls in bad smells in the grass too and peed on spots.

    Thanks Devon (flamepony12) for the

Well I have been wondering....if rolling pee on grass is a territorial thing, how does it make it territorial?

I understand that peeing where they walk says "I've been here so there" or "I've been here so it my walking area" but what does rolling in peed on grass do for them...How is that territorial?

Can I stop it? It makes my dog rather wiffy
