    I couldn't watch the video. My Brother-In-Law is down there with the National Guard and he hasn't mentioned anything about shooting the animals. I don't think he would do it. He'd go AWOL before he did (at least I hope so).

    That's just so sad. I don't want the animals to suffer but help is there. Just take them to the shelter. Feed them! Give them water! Don't kill them!

    I wonder if they thought they were rabid? I just don't know. Like I said I couldn't watch the video. I'd be depressed for months if I did.

    But I will spread the word.

    Please all!

    Even if you can't watch the video... this is happening. It is NOT the National Guard, etc. doing this, it is the Sheriff's dept in St. Bernard Parish (Sgt. Mike Minton in the video ADMITTING to shooting the dogs.... just because they don't have food or water... NOT because they are aggessive/sick etc.)

    I am posting more detail on the reporter that took this video, and contact information again. PLEASE... make even 1 phone call to stop this... whether you watch the video or not!!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I have confirmed with the reporter who shot this footage from the Dallas Morning News that this is TRUE. This is not a composite, and it is not a hoax. The graphic video is actually what happened. You can see for yourself the dogs were not sick and were not attacking, but were shot from a truck a number of yards away from the dogs, who were just walking down the street.
    Here is the footage:
    http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/phot...straydogs.html
    The reporter's name is David Leeson and he can be reached as follows, if you want to thank him or to confirm for yourself: 214-977-8930 or [email protected]. I spoke with his photo editor, Rick Choate, who can be reached at: 214-977-7908 or [email protected]
    Here are the numbers to complain.
    The Louisiana Officials are the ones to call:
    St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's office (where this Sgt. Mike Minton works):
    E-Mail Address: [email protected]
    Business Phone: 504.271.2504
    FAX: 504.278.7716
    (I have been calling and the line is always a fast busy signal, so phones may not work).
    Senator Landrieu's DC office 202-224-5824 (Phone just rang and rang after business hours - no voice mail. Call during business hours). Or e-mail her at this link: http://landrieu.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm
    LA State Police: 225-922-0012, 0120, 0179, 0184, 0286 (also taking messages -- they don't seem to care).
    St. Bernard Parish Rep: 504-361-6684; email: [email protected] (her mailbox is full as of 4:00 PM on 9/9 -- try it anyway to see if she's emptied it, and also e-mail her).
    The ASPCA in New Orleans: 225-925-3980. (it just rang and rang when I called it, but they could be closed for the day. Try tomorrow).
    Governor of Louisiana 1-866-310-7617. I spoke with a very nice lady there. She is an animal lover herself. Took down all the info and she said she's getting hundreds of calls today. Half of the calls today are about the state of pets in Louisiana.
    (FYI - FEMA can't do anything about this, I spoke to them and they said they are there at the invitation of the local government and have no authority over them. However, their external affairs division to make your concers known can be located at 202-646-2168).
    E-mail OPRAH! She did a show on Katrina and specifically focused on the dogs -- her crew saved over 50 dogs right on the air. Get her to do a follow up on this. The link to e-mail her is:
    http://www2.oprah.com/email/reach/em...ch_fromu.jhtml
    It really does matter when people complain. There was a story about a KCAL-9 reporter who rescued a man in NO, but left a black lab behind that had saved the man. Calls and e-mails flooded the station about the reporter leaving the dog behind and they went back that same night at midnight and found the dog and rescued him. (If you want to see that footage of the dog being rescued it is at: http://kcal9.com/homepage/.)
    Even if you just make one call or send one e-mail, you will make a difference.
    Although this video clip may be difficult to watch, it is essential to have these horrific events exposed. Unfortunately, so many of us are protected by proximity- if horrific events are out of sight, they are much eisier to dismiss. Only by passing along and exposing such unthinkable acts are we able to stop them!
    Aside from phone calls, are there any other organized efforts we can initiate to prevent such future acts of brutality??? Such as petitions or...?????
    There is always such power in numbers!
    Hello all,
    I've been watching for more info (heard a report from a rescue woman with bestfriends.org that Sgt, Mike Minton was also running over dogs with his vehicle) ... that this monster was removed from "duty" if you could call it that! And that he would eventually prosecuted for his actions.
    There are rumors that Sgt. Mike Minton was removed from duty (though not confirmed) and the last thing I heard (and as far as I know, this also has not yet been confirmed) there is a "Willy" Mike Minton wanted by the FBI since 1995 link here:
    http://www.fbi.gov/mostwant/fugitiv...septmintonw.htm
    From the information I've read comparing him to the FBI picture, with video made after shooting dogs (and adding 10 years to his looks) it does seems VERY possible this could be the same guy!! I've also read this would not be the first time a criminal was a part of the St. Bernard Parish sheriff's department. But, does seem VERY odd that a known criminal (even as dumb as he is!) would use his real name, minus the "Willy" part?
    Compare FBI photo to video of dog shootings & interview with Mike Minton:
    http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/pho.../straydogs.html
    I have emailed the FBI myself... (as I'm sure MANY others have, that have seen this possible link) and if he is the SAME guy... would sure LOVE to see him behind bars for the REST of his life... but either way, sure plan to do my part to at least make sure he is held accountable for the killing of these innocent dogs!
    *NEW*!! Petition calling for Cease fire on Animals in New Orleans:
    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/366281507
    Will keep you updated on anything else I hear!
    Update on Sgt. Mike Minton (the killer of innocent dogs) -- still no word on whether he is the "Willy Mike Minton" wanted by the FBI. I know the FBI has been flooded with email on this... so if he IS the guy they are looking for, they can't miss him!
    Open letter on the ASPCA site states:
    http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...cane_president
    "Yes, some of the unfortunate stories you are hearing are true. There are confirmed reports of animals being shot in local parishes. From what we have been able to determine, there are genuine issues of public safety. There are concerns about protecting the integrity of human remains. And there has been a loss of command and control in some of the areas where law enforcement officials do not understand how to handle free-roaming dogs. To make matters worse, vandals and looters with firearms are a threat. On behalf of concerned citizens, ASPCA Public Information coordinator Luiza Grunebaum contacted the office of Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco to inquire about the dog shootings that took place in St. Bernard's Parish. According to a governor's aide, the shootings occurred under the orders of Sgt. Mike Minton, the sheriff, who "took this upon himself." Grunebaum was told the shootings have ceased, and Sgt. Minton faces disciplinary charges as a result of his directive."
    Disciplinary charges??? NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!
    People are outraged... and MANY posts can be seen to the Louisiana State Senate -- Senator Walter J. Boasso:
    http://senate.legis.state.la.us/Boasso/bbfinder.asp
    PLEASE take a moment post your own opinion on Sgt. Mike Minton there!
    There is an attorney that plans to follow up on this, and make sure that Mike Minton pays for his actions. He will do this at no charge, and has things already in the works below (a letter to Senator Boasso's assistant) and has other people lined up to help as well.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear Mr. Tucker:
    What exactly is Senator Boasso doing to stop it? Did he take Minton's badge ? And 2. The video clearly shows the dogs murdered by Minton are wagging their tails and waiting to be rescued.

    The video is black and white, please do not waste time trying to deny these heinous actions. It has been mailed to every media outlet across the country and will not be forgotten, swept under a carpet or denied. Petlovers trying to help people and pets in St Bernard will not rest until Minton is brought to justice. It is the Senator's obligation to assist in that goal so the video does not remain the calling card of the parish therefore tarnishing it's reputation along with the good folks who do live there. Remember you will need outside funds to rebuild. Condemning and punishing these atrocities will go a long way.

    Very Truly Yours,
    MJ Feuerstein

    Update on dog shootings....

    I had posted earlier about the dogs being shot in the streets of St. Bernard Parish, but since then, the situation has only gotten much worse. For those that haven't heard... there have been many dogs found shot in several schools in St. Bernard Parish... that still had food and water! I am posting the latest information below... I hope we can all help Pasado Rescue to fund the investigation on these shootings... and find the ALL the monsters responsible for the killing of these poor dogs!!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Mark Steinway from PasadoRescue, and investigators from the Louisiana State Attorney General's Office collected 15 dead dogs and cats from the St. Bernard Elementary School for necropsy.
    From Pasado Rescue at: http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/NEWS/NEWS.htm
    http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/NEWS...TING/REWARD.htm
    Quote from Mark Steinway: We are incurring huge costs providing the x-rays and necropsies on these animals. Each of the 29 animals will take approximately $500 worth of veterinary services. Not to mention the ballistics tests, which will come next. We MUST find who did this. PasadoRescue is a small organization - we're not like the "big gun" national groups who each made $17 million in donations on this disaster, yet we are the ONLY group investigating this crime. If you can help us pay for these fees, please donate securely and note "for dog shooting investigation" when you donate.
    Thanks so much for the update. I am so pleased to hear that Mike Minton (as well as Chip England) are being held responsible for the street shootings. I can still see Mike Minton talking in that news video (where he justified the shootings) in my head like it happened just yesterday
    I hope and pray that all those responsible for the street shootings and school shootings will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
