Farewell my darling Scooter Boots
Scooter passed away Saturday morning. Mom found him curled up in a little nest he made in the closet under the stairs. She said he was purring up to the end as he gave both my mom and dad some love Friday night.
Scooter was born a barn cat at our friends farm. My parents would go there during the hunting season and dad came home with the story of this little fluffball of a kitten that Jerry was calling Scooter. Scooter had climbed up dad's legs and promptly perched himself on dad's shoulder. Jerry told dad he could bring Scooter home but dad declined the offer.
He was foolish to tell us this story.
My sister and I called Jerry and he said we could come and get Scooter. We did and presented him to my dad as an early birthday gift.
Dad told us to give Scooter back. Mom said he could stay.
I honestly can't recall how many years ago that was. Scooter was an easy fit into our clan. Reebok, Converse, and Chance didn't take to him right away, but over time accepted the little fluff ball.
He was always purring. Couldn't meow. Just squeaked. Oh Scoots... I miss you so much.
*edit* I forgot to mention how my parents found it eerie that the other cats knew. When dad went outside with Scooter, Onneka was laying on the exact spot where he planned to bury Scooter. And Reebok was a few feet away howling so mounfully that dad's hairs stood up.

And the last picture I ever got of him on August 7th.
I miss you Scooter. So very very much.
