Actually, my cats and my dog lick me at times, maybe to get salt off my skin, or maybe a "your okay" gesture. They lick hands, arms, or legs, never had any lick my face.

I stand corrected. My new kitten Ashton, licked my face today. Not sure why.

No neither of my cats lick me on purpose. If they are licking something off my hand I get to feel their little sandpaper tongues but that's the only time.

My cat(Kitti) and dog (Olli) will both lick me. I think of the licks as appreciation and affection. When Kitti lays on me she will lick my hand, arm, face or whatever she is closest to.

Maya would lick the skin of you if you let her. Her tongue is just like (coarse) sandpaper. She loves licking people on the face and hands. It's one of her favourite ways to wake people up. Prema has a much gentler touch and she prefers hands, arms and knees. She would give me one lick me on the face once only if she feels I deserve it.

My male cat on the other hand would only lick my fingers if they are covered in cream

Bo loves to lick my husband's leg while he and she are sharing the plush recliner. She will do this for close to an hour! Perhaps licking is a sign of affection, given towards another cat or a human that is perceived to be part of the family.

Thelma & Weezie both love to lick my hands. Thelma will also lick my eyelids, ears and neck (if I let her ... it tickles!)

Ooooh, sorry if this sounds like bragging, but I've GOT to tell somebody and nobody here (my section of the 'real world') understands. I've gotten some REALLY weird looks at work over mentioning this one: Livvy (Lady Olivia d'Flufferuni) has a new 'trick'. Lately when she decides to climb into my arms for cuddle time, she's just started leaning forward and putting her lips on mine for a little 'cat kiss'. I think it's sooooo sweet/adorable. Just trying to reward her to keep this new habit/trick up.
I'm sometimes asked "Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals when there is so much cruelty to men?" I answer: "I am working at the roots." -George T. Angell, reformer (1823-1909)

Thank you, Popcornbird for creating this tribute to Summer starring Livvy and Cassy

Oh yes, Fister does too, especially in the morning when I come back to the bedroom, he tries to lick off my face cream. I'm sure he's trying to wash me. For God's sake, I've just had a shower!! It's so sweet, though.
