What if they held an election.....

And a whole bunch of people showed up???

    Congratulations Iraq.

The first step on the road to democracy usually leads to stubbed toes, but soon you'll be running like the rest of us.

Political scandal, payoffs, sex scandals, voting fraud, nepotism and some drunk driving arrests. Ya gotta love it!!!

I have a secret passion in politics.....

It's watching those wacky foreign congress tapes....you know...
where someone tosses a glass of water into someone's face,
shoes and staplers start to fly-leading up to the broken glasses, torn suits and the bearhugs followed by sucker punches.

Some people take the "fight for democracy" literally!!

    Others take things too seriously.

Which leads us to Edward Kennedy......Dude, alright already!!!
Your boy didn't win, so get moving into the future! No fight left in that dog. Just making noise at the fence.

And John Kerry....Sour grapes or what???
It's that post election let down....try again in four years.
And take a second to acknowledge something special that happened in Iraq.

Dancing at the polls, smiles on faces, getting excited about marking the letter 'x' on a piece of paper. People sticking a purple finger into the air, thrilled they've been given the chance to vote..

It's old hat to me.....I walk out of my polling station feeling good about myself. I don't dance, smile or get my finger stained.

BUT, I think in the next election I'll break it down!!!!

Do a little boot scooting, break dancing or waltzing, smile, paint my finger blue and not take my voting rights for granted any more.

    ----------------------------------------------

I was really bothered that a few of the elected officials couldn't put aside THEIR political BS to see something really special happening in Iraq.

    Gosh,
It must be tough not being able to step out of your political shoes and give an opinion-not some pre packaged party line/speech-an oration that makes you look like a bitter second place politician.

I wonder how much pain saying a few good words about an elelction that was held halfway around the world could cause!

And then I remembered that two months really isn't long enough
to live down the fact that not enough people voted for you.

When something positive happens to people who deserve it, we should celebrate. I was overjoyed to watch the news last night and see the people lined up to have their voice count!!! If I understood it correctly, they had a HUGE number of candidates from which to choose. They didn't complain or fuss or contest the election. They proudly voted, many of them for the first time in their life.

I applaud the Iraqui people for taking this bold step forward!!!!!!

Let's hope they don't have problems like Florida had a few years ago. Boy was that embarrassing!

But wait a minute guys, it was a big mistake going to Iraq. This war is taking too long and we need to pull out now. Saddam wasn't hurting America so why should we have captured him?(can you sense the sarcasm)

Apparently the Iraqi people did want a change or they wouldn't be voting. Hello?!? I want to know who still thinks the Big Bad Americans should have minded their own business?

Meanwhile, Bin Laden is running free and clear.

Hopefully saddam is not replaced by another dictator that the middle east will see as a puppet of the u.s. we would be hated even more. And like dukedogsmom says bin laden will be waiting in the wings to stir that up.

Bin Laden may still be out there, but can you imagine what would happen to us if he was actually captured?

Living in a hole in the mountains.

Bin Laden isn't the 'player' he once was and everyone does something stupid now and then.

    I'm betting on the "then"..

I saw something about the American people showing their solidarity with the people of Iraq...

    http://www.gopbloggers.org/bluefingers.html

    Kinda interesting....

A blue finger in Iraq is a good thing-so what happened with the BLUE STATES here in the U.S.???

Where else in the world would people celebrate an election held in another country???
