I doubt it will cost much to get a nail trimming at the vet's. If you want to try it on your own, it is best if you have someone help to hold the guinea pig. I use a mini straight nail clipper, and not cuticle scissors. I hold my guinea pigs on my lap and gently lift their leg out and cut the white part of the nail partially. Remember to never touch the pink part, because that is where blood is. hope this helps

Since your brother's guinea pig has brown nails, just clip the very tip! If the nails start to bleed, put on flour or baking soda to stop it.

I would suggest taking your piggies to the vet and having them show you how. Or, take them to a petstore that offers nail trimmings.

    Good luck!

It means your brother's guinea pig has a darker coat colour and usually the nails are darker. Smudge has two paws that have black nails, and since you can't see the "quick" cut the same amount, or just the tip like Chrissy said.

It took a long time before I was the courage to trim my piggies nails! I have a great pocket pet vet and she would do them both for a few dollars. But I'm a pro now I'm sure after watching the vet do it, after a while you'll be a pro too!

I'd take her to the vet. Your vet will show you how to do them on your own. That's how I learned.
