    Trimming my dog's toenails...

Ever since Blaze (my border collie) was a puppy, he has ALWAYS hated having his nails trimmed!! He won't sit still at all, and even dislikes me touching his paws. I don't know what to do--every time the clippers come out, it's a struggle for both Blaze and me. I've tried having someone hold him, but it's still the same. I think the only thing that'll make him sit still for a LITTLE bit, is if I give him lots of cheese. (otherwise he tries to nip me, in a playful sort of way and run off) Do you have any suggestions on making him less nervous and sit still?

    Thanks Kay!!

    Re: Trimming my dog's toenails...

I am not sure what to tell you since both my dogs
dislike having their nails trimmed too.
(I once cut Sheba's quick and that did it for her)

What I do is sit down on the floor and have the dog
sit in front of me where my legs actually are on
each side of them to help keep them
in place. Or I sit practacally above them and wrap
    myself around one paw/leg.
I try to be as fast as possible and might not even do
all their nails in one sitting. I also give them a goodie
and tell them what good pups they are.

I use nail clippers, but I have heard other people use
a tool called a drummel (sp) with great sucess.

peanut butter on a spoon lol trust me that stuff is a miracle! Ripley is the same way, My BCs have always tolerated it. now blair is a differnt story! lol we picked up some tranqualizer from the vet when Happy was there, because the most we have managed to do at once was 6 nails, that took 3 people, several towls, a pillow, and about an hour.. I really dont care to go through that again!

No offence but, you shouldn't ask people in other threads to come to dog games... they are here for another reason...
