    What Kind do I have?

Does anyone know how to tell what kind of cat you have? I'm not sure. I guess it's a domestic shorthair. The mamma was an outdoor cat and must have found a stray mate. Someone told me my cat looked similar to a siamese. Is it possible to have a mixed breed like that? He is all black. But his hairs start off gray close to his body then turn black. his underbelly is dark brownish.

    here's zezu(zee-zoo)

Oh yeah, and he hates being picked up by strangers and always hisses at them. He's really a sweetheart, he just gets afraid around people and needs his space.

any info or informative websites you could give would be helpful.

    thanks,
    Ben

    Hey, Ben
I'm not sure, but I think he looks like what they call a domestic shorthair, just like my Charlie.
Zezu has such beautiful, shiny black fur! What a doll!
Now, what's he doing with that banana??

Ben, somewhere I have heard that all short hair black cats have Siamese in them. How true that is I don't know, but I have heard it more than once. I too am curious about the banana!

Yorkster- what you may have heard is that all black cats are tabbies - essentially they are black on black tabbies. This is very evident when they are kittens in bright sunlight - their stripes really stand out then! I would post a link to a site that explains this, but it is on my bookmarks at home and I am at work - perhaps I'll edit it in later....

My cat is definatly two toned, or maybe even three toned. In the sunlight, I notice stripes(Black and dark brownish).

If you look closely at his fur it also has gray at the base closest to his skin. you can't notice that unless you are close or unless you pick up his sheddings.

Now that I think of it, his sisters he was separated from were gray and white. His mamma was all black. According to the owner of Shady,(zeezoo's mamma), Zezu was the dominant one of the children and they followed him around all the time.

The banana: He was just checking it out. I had put it down to take a picture and he jumped up to see if he could take a bite. he was unsuccesful.

    Hi Ben E,
Your cat looks just like my Jazzie(mother of 5)In the light you can see the stripes and she does have a brownish tint sometimes. However, when I brush her, the dead hair is always grey! Wierd. Well, she had 3 tabbys and 2 solid grey. Of course, the daddies had something to do with it too.

Your cat looks EXACTLY like my Buster. Same eyes, same beautiful coat. Buster is also very skittish, but loves his people. Believe it or not, most black cats are tabbys -- they are just too dark to see the stripes except in the sun. Next time, you can see his stripes, look at his forhead and see if there is an "M" -- this is the classic tabby marking. He probably has some Siamese in him, look at the narrow face and distinctive eyes, also the sleek body. Siamese are known to bond with only their owners and to not like others. My girlfriend in highschool had one who would walk along the back of the couch and then jump onto my neck and attack me. It hurt! But, my Buster is the hiding type. I knew my husband was the rigth one when Buster fell in love with him. Sherry
