Running paws along snout

When Lefty is lying down and wants to be petted, he'll run his paws along his ears and snout (sometimes opening his mouth as he does so). It's as though he's trying to look as cute and irresistible as possible; however, I am curious as to what this REALLY means in "dog language." Anyone have any clues?

Finn does that, too, but, it's usually after a bath and he's acting a fool...or after a meal that's (sorry to be graphic) a little bloody.... I think Finn does it more to clean himself...it is still cute, though! I'm not sure what it means in dog language if he's not actually doing something with his paws other than being cute! Good question, hopefully someone will answer! Cuz I'm curious, too....

Max does it all the time, too! Whenever he comes in from outside, after he eats, after a bath etc. It's soooo cute!
