    Remedy for Stinky Butt Syndrome

Anyone remember Eliot and his stinky butt bath mnaual? Well, he still has the syndrome and so does sister Emily. I am getting sick of the butt bath procedure. lat192004 mentioned some sort of product for females...IS there something I can buy and kinda squirt on them like Febreze for fabric? I would just use Febreze but have no idea what is in that stuff. They are having their booster shots next months so I will ask the vet but he will likely have some $$ product for me so I figured I would ask here first. I also want to ask him if they might have some sort of anal sac trouble similar to what dogs get and have to have emptied. Eliot is always stinky. Emily's problem is just gas I think - P-U!! NOT very dainty or ladylike! I am pretty fanatic about smells and cleanliness - but this is not normal because big ole hairy Dylan smells sweet like baby powder all the time!! I don't even have to clip or clean his butt!! Any suggestions most welcome on this ...uh...delicate matter!

    Hello cat lover!

Ask the vet for Derma-Pet liquid. Apply a little to a warm cloth, and gently clean the anal sack area. Female cats do have an anal sac that needs to be kept clean/emptied. My cat will let me do the proceedure as long as she is laying on the bed. If she is standing erect, she protests loudly, even giving me a nip. So, the Derma-Pet is great, but it's expensive. I'm searching the 'web for a generic if there is one. Let me know how the Derma-Pet works, OK?

I think you should definitely ask your vet about the stinky butt problem. It could be very well that it comes from the anal glends, it's not only a dog thing.

As far as Emily's gas problem goes, testing her stool for bacteria could help. Luna had a lot of gas as a kitten, and at the age of 9 months, e.coli have been found in her colon. It's been treated and she never had any gas since (well, except for the time when she had clostridia last year).

And btw, I don't think you could use Febreze (most likely toxic to cats), but would be interesting to know if there is a product like that for cats. But I think it's better to find out the cause of the stinky butts and remove it...

PULEEEEEEEEEASE! How could anyone forget that!!!???That was one of the funniest pictorials I have seen!

I have been very lucky with all the long hairs and I haven't had the problem. No one in my house has had to have the butt bath (so far)! I will be curious what you find out because I may need something like that one of these days.

Marsha has to get the occasional but bath, but for...erm... different reasons! (poor girl and her long hair!) Have you looked at the pet perfumes that they sell at pet stores?

FYI Febreze is not toxic to animals.
Thumper goes nuts when I've sprayed it on a chair.
