photo editing

I want to download a photo editing shop, I don't know what its really called. I want to be able to make sigs and avatars things like that. What kind do you guys use and did you just download it? Summer is coming up and I'll have free time and I like learning new things like that. Thank you!

I have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.

A friend of mine recommended it to me last year, and told me to download it.

I did, and I taught myself everything.. It's very easy to use and figure out things.
