    blood on the eye

My parents' cat, Fu, has something weird going on with his eye. There is blood all scattered under it, making the eye look orange and cloudy. It doesn't reflect normally in the dark, either.

I offered to take Fu to the vet, but mom says she doesn't have money to treat him right now. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but I'm worried about his eyesight. He also slept all day, but he is nine years old. I haven't been around to observe his regular activities.

Should I be worried? Has anyone else had this happen?

Deb, I keep an Vet handbook in my desk and as I am looking into the eye section, I can not find anything about what you are describing, however, everything that is listed says that vet attention is highly recommended. Most of the problems they describe say that these eye problems are painful to the cat. Sorry I can not be more help. I hope everything works out OK...keep us posted.

I am sorry that I do not have anything concrete to tell you. however, anything to do with the eye like that I definately take the kitty to the vet. Stuff like this is not somehing that I would like to put off.

If they can't afford it right now, maybe you can call and at least talk to the vet and see what they say. Maybe they would be able to work out a payment plan or something if it can't be paid for right now. I know that my vet would do something like that to help a sick animal. If there regular vet will not do a payment plan and they wanted to see Fu, maybe you can call some others in the area and see if would be willing to work with you onn payment.

    Just some thoughts.

Can you tell I really think that a vet should be consulted, sorry about pushing that.
