started going out of litter box

I have a three year old male cat, neutered. He has been a good cat so far but has started to pee outside the litter box. I think it may have something to do with a new puppy, but we've had the puppy for eight months and this didn't start until recently. He doesn't have an infections because he isn't acting like my other cat did when she had one. Do you think the puppy could be the problem? If so what can I do?

First, don't assume it is not a urinary problem. "He" cats have very different uterine "plumbing" than "she" cats - and a UTI in a male can actually be life-threatening if there is blockage. Nothing to mess with - it is serious business for cats, but even more so for tom cats as they can become blocked more easily.

Please take kitty for a checkup just to be sure! Then you can work on the behavioral side.
