    The Horrors of Rescue

I was contacted by my niece the other day to try and help get a Bullmastiff into rescue. The dog was a one year old male. He was at least 50 lbs. underweight and never saw the inside of a house. My niece was informed of the poor dog's plight and immediately told the contact to tell the owners that she will try and find a rescue for him.
I gave her some numbers to call. Great Pyr rescue even volunteered to help out (not foster, however, they have too many Pyrs). One of the Bullmastiff numbers was one to a lady who would have fostered him.
Then came the horrible news....the owners shot the dog.
I am in shock. He could have been saved. I am horrified.

Destroying the evidence of their cruelty to animals no doubt.
I am so sorry for your dear sweet niece to have such an encounter with such sadness. What a shame. This could have been an animal who would have finally seen love and care.

I am still numb about this. I can't even imagine it happening, but I know it does.

My GSD rescue director is very angry about this. We were all working on a solution and it was falling together.

Rest in peace, sweet Bullmastiff, even though you didn't know it, there were people here who loved you. You weren't given the chance to meet them, though. You can wait for me at Rainbow Bridge, you can cross over with my gang....

    So very sad.

Here I sit crying for a dog that I never met. How sad. RIP, Sweet Mastiff. I hope you are greeted on the other side by a child who had suffered like you and you two can give each other the love you were so cruely denied while on earth.

I would like to think this is what happened at the gates of
    Rainbow Bridge.

Nothing can bring him back, but I do hope the scumbag does
not get away with this. I hope he's punished for this cruel act.

I'm speechless Sue and in tears I can just hear the owners..."We shot him to put him out of his misery." RIGHT.....The misery that THEY caused! Thanks Sue for doing all you could to help this boy. Rescue work can be so uplifting and, so heartbreaking. MY heart breaks for these defenseless soul. Rest easy now, sweetheart.
