Cats & Cottage Cheese??? Healthy treat ideas.?

I've recentlly discovered that my cat loves fat free cottage cheese.
Her normal diet consists of her dry food and some kitty treats.

After researching the net I've found that cottage cheese is not all too uncommon to give cats as it's a good source for calcium.

Does anyone else out there feed there kitty's cottage cheese? If so, how much and how often?

Anyone know of any pro's and con's of kitty's and cottage cheese?

Any other ideas for healthy kitty treats?
    Thanks for any input!
Best Regards, J.B. and Olive the Dog!

I've never given my cat's cottage cheese before as I'm not too keen on it myself. But, I'm sure that Ali would gobble it up...she eats everything. Jack would probably stick his nose in it and then walk away...he's the pickest eater I know (he doesn't like chicken). I would ask your vet if there are pro's and con's to feeding it to them.

    Hi there,

My cats like cottage cheese, sour cream, etc... The one problem with all of these products is that they can result in diarrhea because cat's are lactose intolerant. I don't usually give these items to my cats, but I will let the lick the bowl when I am finished (but don't tell anyone ).

At PetSmart or Petco, there is special milk for cats (i.e., it has been treated so that it won't result in diarrhea). It is called Cat Sip or there is a Whiskas brand in a purple container.

I like to give my cats the treats that help with tarter because it helps to keep their teeth cleaner.

Cats are lactose intolerant as stated above, but I've learned that in small amounts they are fine. After I eat cottage cheese Corkscrew LOVES to lick the bowl clean. I let him because there is never enough left in the bowl to upset his stomach. He also really likes string cheese, I'll let him have a little piece of it if I'm eating it.

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

LOL Shhh...I let toby lick out my bowl too!

Toby seems to love ANYTHING involving cheese or milk, he hasn't had cottage cheese but I'm sure he'd love it. I don't know much about it, but I would say the best way is to let them eat it in moderation, and only once in a while

I won't tell my kitty, Idge, that 'moderation' means only every once in a while!
If she had her way she'd convince me to give her cottage cheese every day!

Ya'll are great! Thanks for the tips!

My cats are crazy for Catsip and ? the other treated milk for cats. Until recently, they also loved turkey slices ... those really thin slices that are so thin you can read through them? Here lately, they sniff them but don't eat. Their appetites are off. I'm hoping it's because warmer weather is here. I'm starting to worry about them...

Though they aren't eating the turkey, I'm sure your babies are fine. It's hard not to worry about them when they start behaving differently.
    Thanks!

I'm also lactose intolerant so I buy lactose -free milk and then share with the kitties. They love it and it doesn't cause any digestive problems....well to be honest, I eat cereal and then let them clean the bowl...
