The vet said that if she is going to have a reaction its better for it to be there than anywhere else.
Ah, that's interesting! Do you know why?

Lerah, please tell Jack from Luna he doesn't have to worry about her (but it's sweet he did ), she's feeling great, only a bit tired from the heat and humidity.

He said that she has lots of fatty tissue there (being an Aby she hasn't *grown into her skin* so to speak) and that if she got a sarcoma it would be easily removable if caught early. That is also why they put microchips near there as well in case of reaction.

There is a study I found a couple years ago run by the veterinary equivalent of the AMA. I can't remember the exact link but you can do a search using Yahoo or whatever. One thing I remember is that some vaccines have additives called "adjuvants" which may be the actual agents triggering cancer in some cats. You may wish to ask your vet about "adjuvent-free" shots.

Another good strategy is vaccinating every three years (in my area you can get a three year distemper and three year rabies.) Also, stagger the shots (don't give them all at one go.)

    That is good advice, thanks!

I have already discussed the option of only vaccinating every three years with my vet, but we both agreed Luna should get them this year because the upcoming arrival of a new kitten.

I have found this link and it seems to be helpful: http://www.avma.org/vafstf/ownbroch.asp
