    Stupid Human Trick?

I am a terrible pet owner.....

I try to put the dog out right before I go to sleep at night and when he does his business and comes back in in a reasonable amount of time, He gets a small biscuit.

When he'd walk in, he knows to stop and wait by the counter to get his treat.

Upon getting his reward, he goes to his sheepskin and proceeds to eat it.
    ------------

I started a little experiment and began to give him two small biscuits at a time.

What I would do is put them together and give them to him both at once.

He handled that with no problem......Then I upped the number to three for one week.

    -------------------

THIS is where he freaked out.

He would take the three in his mouth and as he turned to go to his spot, one or two would fall out.

This caused him to stop and hesitate.

He would stand there and try to figure out if he should go his spot, or stop to eat his treat right there..

Sometimes he would run to his spot and come back for what he dropped, sometimes he'd stay and eat on the spot!

The following week, I went back to two biscuits.

When he stopped to get them, he'd hesitate - not sure what would happen and a little suspicious that I was trying to trick him.

    --------

The following week I went back to one biscuit and now he won't trust me at all!

I have to get him to stop and I need to entice him to take the biscuit.

We have gone back to the usual one treat per visit, but this was an interesting little experiment......

I learned that dog's DO have a certain amount of trust and are creatures of habit........

No animal was harmed in the experiments.......

Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all -

    I laugh, therefore? I am.

No humans were hurt during the posting of this message.
