    Belle had surgery; doing well

Belle is 8 y.o. She had a tumor, a histiocytoma, develop on her side, behind her front leg. These tend to be benign; they also usually spontaneously disappear within 3 months.

Well, what with all my surgeries, this thing was around 17 months. From Feb to August it grew from 1 cm to 3 cm. So it had to be removed. Surgery was Thursday. Belle has to be confined for 10 days to allow the incision site to heal. I have her in the x-pen in the living room with pee pads, water bowl, and 2 beds. She is wearing an ecollar. And I have to take her out on leash so she just not dash about, play with Frankie, and so on. We will have the lab report the end of next week.

The first pics show this tumor in January.

Then a pic when she first got home, still groggy from the anesthesia.

And 2 pics of her outside; you can see the incision in those.

She is taking Tramadol morning and night and doing well; though she is not happy that she can't sleep in the bed with us yet. I need to wait until touching her side is not going to hurt her at all.

Well, it seems I can not upload files at this time.

Oh, poor Belle having to wear the dreaded cone and be confined, but I'm glad you had it done.

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery and I hope the lab report comes back with good results!

    Love to Belle!

Oh dear, poor Belle! Recovery from surgery is no fun for humans, let alone furkids! But the important thing is the surgery went well, that's she home, and fingers crossed for a good lab report next week! And of course we know her mommy is doing her best to make her extra comfy! Lots of love and cuddles to you, sweetheart! Get well soon!

I'm glad that Belle's surgery went well.
Belle, your mom is definitely a pro when it comes to taking care of post-op patients, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Dearest Belle, that is wonderful news that the surgery went so well! We are wishing and hoping and praying that your recovery goes well, too, and you are soon back to your regular routine and activities.

Thank you Randi, Karen, Sandra, cats4ever, Phesina and Pat.

Belle is doing fine. Finished the Tramadol, so no meds for her. She is such a great patient, walks right into the x-pen when we return from a trip outside. She is clearly confused as to WHY she can't be with us, and sleep in the big bed at night; but she is amenable.

Yesterday morning I did take the other 4 out in the car for walkies at the park, where they can run off leash. Soon as she realized she was NOT coming Belle started barking and whining. I felt terrible, but it is for her own good. That long incision needs to heal up before she starts moving, romping and playing. She was quiet by the time we returned, which is good.

I've emailed the photos to Karen, so in time they will appear in this thread.

Belle is so cute and such a great patient.
Those e-collars are such a pain for everybody, but a necessary evil.
    Hang in there, Belle.

I have an inflatable one which I have used often w/ the fluffs. Belle is so small that is it too large for her! Since she is confined in the x pen, the cone is not really an issue. If she were free to move about the house then it would be banging on things until she learned the size space needed to fit through with it on.

Frankie is afraid of the collar so he won't go near Belle! Very funny, periodically he is still (3 days later) getting to the point he sometimes has to bark at her / it.

Thank you Karen for adding the photos!

Silly Frankie! I wonder if he thinks it's contagious - if he gets close, he might sprout one!

    And you're welcome!

Oh, it's good that you can take her outside, cone on or not, I bet she enjoys it. Give her some extra kisses.

He just might think it is.

    Oh my, love those remarks.

I take Belle outside on leash, tie her on the patio (to the fence) where she can reach the lawn, and NOT the chairs (she will jump up), and do the mowing, weeding etc. I've put pet beds down near her, but she won't use them.

When I am walking her - with the cone on - Frankie has to keep a far distance away! He is not happy w/ that cone, not at all, silly boy.
