No One Wanted This Senior Dog From The Streets, But Then Everything Changed

Try to not say AWWWWWW. I dare you!

Ahh, fame. Many people aspire to it, but so few actually make it to the top. Once someone makes it big, their whole life changes.
However, for this now-famous pup named Marnie, her life changed far before she sky-rocketed to Internet stardom. Found on the streets, abandoned and in bad shape, Marnie's life took a turn for the better when she was finally adopted by her BFF-to-be. The fame? Well, that's just the cherry on the top of this puppy's sundae.
In August of 2012, animal rescuers found her on the streets of Connecticut, ratty, smelly, and sick.

No one knows what the first 10 or so years of her life were really like, but they probably weren't all that easy.

Though she's living in the laps of luxury now...

For four months she spent her days in a shelter under the name Stinky. Perhaps it was the stench from the 14 rotting teeth in her mouth that drove people away, but all this old pup needed was someone who would take care of her.

Luckily, a puppy-less New Yorker named Shirley saw Stinky on Petfinder, and went all the way to Connecticut to bring the senior dog home with her.

Even though the shelter said that the pup was blind in her cloudy left eye (and really did smell pretty bad), Shirley wasn't deterred.

Shirley got rid of the name Stinky and addressed her rotting teeth...

That's when this little ball of joy became Marnie!

Finally rid of the pain in her mouth, her charming personality was able to shine through.

Even her eye began to clear up as her health improved...

Today, Marnie can see just fine!

You may have noticed that her tongue hangs out of her mouth...

And that her head tilts to the left.

    Instagram

Neither of these are a thing of concern!

Her tongue is just long. Always has been!

Even before her teeth were removed, she'd often lick her tongue to keep it from getting too dry.

The head tilt is a result of a case of Vestibular Syndrome from Marnie's younger days.

    Instagram

The disease effects the vestibular system, which has to do with balance. It's not too uncommon in pups, and when treated most come out of it just fine — like Marnie!

When Marnie's human, Shirley, started posting pictures of her charismatic pup on Instagram...

Her follower base grew dramatically. People were eager to share the pup's adorableness with friends.

Now Marnie is meeting all sorts of new friends.

    Really, really, really cool friends.

But Marnie doesn't let it go to her head.

No, Marnie is just like you or me. She goes grocery shopping...

    Goes to the laundromat...

And enjoys simple pleasures, like taco night, just like anybody else!

Since Marnie was a senior when she was adopted, she's extra grateful for her second chance at life.

Not many people are looking to adopt older dogs, so it's always a win-win when someone chooses this route.

Needless to say, Marnie is one of the most famous pups on Instagram. She also has Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter accounts so you can get your daily dose of Marnie from all over the web! Believe me, your days will be brighter once Marnie is a part of them!

Wow! So happy that special person took all the time, money and care to help heal Marnie. What a darling, sweet little dog.
