The Calgary Humane Society says they have seized over 50 exotic animals from a suite, many of which were dead or in need of intensive care.
The animals, consisting of snakes, reptiles, fish, rodents, birds, and rabbits, were found in a basement apartment in northwest Calgary.
Peace officers with the Calgary Humane Society say they worked from late evening through to the early morning hours transporting the animals to their shelter.

They say the animals had been obtained for free from the online classified site Kijiji and had been severely neglected to the point where several had died or were in poor condition.
All of the animals are receiving emergency medical care at the Calgary Humane Society office.
Officials say that residents who are looking for a new home for their pets should assign payment to attract owners who will value and properly care for the animal.
Owners who do not wish to assign monetary value to their pet can surrender them to the Humane Society. Workers there guarantee the animals will be properly cared for.
Currently, Kijiji has approximately 200 ads for free animals available for adoption in the City of Calgary.
Earlier this year, the company announced they would be charging users to $5 post ads for dogs.
The payment would also have to be made with a credit card or through a PayPal account so the poster could be traced.
The move was aimed at curbing the unethical sale of dogs on the site.
There is no information on any charges against the owner of the animals in the suite.

How sad! Hopefully the person will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!
