One of Dad's long-time neighbors remarked that all the dogs - hers included, knew where Dad would have a cookie hidden - they regarded it as his "magic pocket." She said she always knew, if her dog escaped, where to find him - at Dad's house, pointing the cookie box! She almost brought a biscuit to tuck in with Dad, but figured she'd better not.

It would have been kind of cool if she could have snuck it into the "magic pocket."

We laid him to rest today, next to Ma, in the old cemetery, where my baby sister and brother who only lived one day are buried, and where his folks and many relatives are buried. There was a military honor guard, and while blue skies were predicted all week, it was appropriately overcast and grey skies.

Thank you again, everyone, for all your prayers and thoughts.

Karen, I just saw this now. Please know that you and your family are very much in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Thanks everyone. I still find myself thinking, "I should ask Dad ..." and realizing I cannot.

You have no idea how many times over the last few days I've stopped myself from calling Oxford.

Jen (LOH) almost asked me if I had called the other day.

This too shall pass, I'll just have to listen more closely to the voice in the back of my head, it may have just become somewhat more bass in tone.

    Karen and Lady's Human,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds like a special person, very kind to the people and animals that knew him. And his magic pocket probably came in very handy during the reunion at the RB.
