    Cross Post From Cat Health

For those of you who don't visit cat health Alani is in the ICU for the next few days. Here's the link to that thread in cat health: http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthre...49#post2480849.

Oh no! Having been down this road with Ming, I know how scary and frustrating blockages can be. Feeding a special diet for one cat in a multi-cat household is very difficult. I couldn't always do it with three of them, much less as many as you have. the special foods are not very tasty and it took MONTHS to get all my cats on the same diet with a food they would all eat. I sincerely hope this is a one-time occurence and that Alani will never block again. Ming got his first blockage when he was about Alani's age. Unfortunately, Ming's condition was chronic and eventually led to fatal CRF. Is Alani a big cat? I think he is, isn't he? My vet said, for some reason, large cats suffered from this more often. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks. Now I may need to be prepared for him to have PU surgery.

Thanks everyone. My vet and I agreed that his best option is to have the PU surgery. He'll be having it some time this afternoon and then he should be able to come home some time tomorrow. Please send some positive vibes his way. Thanks.

He's having the surgery after just one blockage? Most cats never block again. Well, your vet must know best as he has seen Alani. I am wishing Alani the speediest of recoveries and a long, happy, life.

Positive vibes are on their way from all of us!!!

I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

If you read the thread in cat health then you would know that he did a lot of damage to the tip of his penis. It most likely has scar tissue or will heal up with scar tissue which will only cause more blockages in the future. This is why he had the PU surgery after only one blockage. My RB cat Storm had two blockages before he had the PU surgery. He was put on a prescription urinary diet and about 2 months later he blocked a second time. This time he also had scar tissue so they couldn't even catheterize him so he needed surgery asap. So yes cats do block more than once. If you look up old Fister threads or even threads about Phreds cat, you can read that they also blocked more than once and eventually needed PU surgery.
Thanks for the speedy recovery wishes.
