    Smoke free!

Next Sunday (9/15) marks my 6 month anniversary of being smoke free, thanks to the electronic cigarettes. I was a 1+ pack a day smoker for about 50 years (yeah-I started when I was just 3 ), and tried every cessation method known to man, to quit, and failed with every one of them. Now the smell of cigarette smoke makes me very nauseous, and there's no way I would ever light up again. WOW - never thought I'd ever be able to say that. My wallet isn't quite so empty either, because what I paid for a carton of cheapy generic brand cigarettes that lasted a little over a week, I now spend about the same $$$ for the e-cig cartridges and that quantity lasts me from 2 - 3 months. I find myself "smoking" less and less of those too, and perhaps the day will come when I quit those too. Both my cardiologist and PCP are thrilled with my results. If doctors recommend these, then they can't be too bad. Some studies say the long term effects of the e-cigs aren't known - (DUH-they haven't been around long enough for long term anything), but they HAVE to be far less harmful than the smoke of tobacco. I'll stay with them no matter what, since they work for me!

Ya know - the strange thing is - that for as many years as I smoked, I never had any respiratory issues. Every chest x-ray I ever had was clear, no chronic bronchitis or other breathing issues, no COPD, and no other health issues related to smoking other than the osteoporosis and GI issues. Those GI issues REALLY made up for the lack of other issues tho, I suppose, and in all fairness, they were hereditary too. I just chalk up the bone issues to my age.....

    Congratulations!!

I will always be grateful for the Pneumonia I had 15 years ago. It made me so miserable for a week, that I never thought of lighting up. And I just kept going from there.

Wish something like that had worked for me. No matter how deathly sick I may have been (and I did nearly check out once), I always lit up once I got feeling better. Talk about stupid...........

    Congratulations, Ellie! Well done!

Something to be proud of Pom, so many of my friends have tried to quit but never stuck it out. Congratulations and I'm glad to see you don't miss it, at least you won't be tempted to start up again. My sister-in-law quit a few yrs ago and the first thing she said was that she didn't realize how the cigarette smoke made her clothes and house smell not so fresh. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations, I know smoking is a hard habit to quit. I did it back in 1990, just went cold turkey. I'm so glad I did. I also get sick to my stomach when I smell smoke even it's just on people's clothes. I had smoked for many, many years also.
