    The "North Korea Situation"

I don't mean to scare or offend anyone, but the news over here are all reporting tonight that the North Korean army has just authorized a nuclear attack on the US. I really hope this is just an idle threat and nothing else, but it's beginning to scare me.
    It's here as well: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/n...-united-states

What are your thoughts about this? Is it just saber rattling?

Karen, I hope it's not inappropriate to start such a thread here, if so, please delete it.

The whole world had better hope and pray that's all that it is. Whoever pushes the next nuclear button will be starting the beginning of the end, I'm afraid.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking...

The North Koreans may or may not have an actual functional nuclear bomb.

What they don't have is a miniaturized nuclear device that can go on a missile. That took the US and the USSR more then a decade after development of the weapon.

It's saber rattling by an extremely unstable regime who has their backs against the wall and an unknown as a leader.

Should they actually make any military moves, it's going to result in a lot of casualties and a nonexistent country. China, their sole ally, isn't happy with their actions, and may not back them in a military action, as China's economy is mostly reliant on trade with the US.

Their military looks impressive on paper. However, just ask Saddam how well starving troops fight. IN addition, they don't have the tech to stand up to a modern military.

That makes sense. Hope their "leader" is wise enough to know that!

Their figurehead had Dennis Rodman for a visit.....he's a scary, unstable guy. These actions by the North have been cooking for a long time, they were inevitable. Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the world that backing unstable, repressive regimes is a losing game for all involved.
