If it's not the dogs, it's the CATS!!!

A few days back, I cooked 2 hamburgers in the toaster oven. One for lunch, and one was going in the fridge for an upcoming busy day.

Once cooked, I took one, put it on the toasted bun, added the works, and went to sit and eat. I closed the over door, to keep the other one warm until I was ready (Sometimes, I end up eating both ha haa).

Decided to take the dogs out; forgot about the other hamburger. Get back and time to clean up in the kitchen and . . . I see the toaster oven door open and the pan is pulled out a bit -- and EMPTY!

I know it was Sparkle, he heee. No idea if she shared the burger, but she was the one to open the door. Since then, the toaster oven door is frequently open; guess she doesn't want to rely on her nose, she wants to check just to be sure!

    My goodness!!!

I know cats that do things like that..
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

That's too funny! And as pet lovers we know that's why they invented microwaves and toaster ovens, as a place to hide food from the pets.
Looks like you'll have to put a lock on your toaster oven!

Yep, been trying to think how, he hee. I often cook a nice piece of fish, eat half and save half. I am going to have to put away the 2d bit before I eat!

Sparkle needs to learn how to close the door then you'd really be confused as to what happened?
    Silly cat!
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Well, all of my cats can get into EVERY cabinet in my kitchen. NOWHERE is safe. Kimba even got the refrigerator door open and was locked inside for awhile when I thought my son had forgotten to close the door and I shut it. Now we check, just in case. The toaster oven? No, they haven't figured that one out yet, but give them time. I laugh when people call them "dumb animals". Yeah, right.

Maybe if you have a heavy enough canister - maybe a flour canister could reside holding the door shut when you are not using it? Safer than bungee-cording it shut!

Up until Bosun, I didn't have a food thief. Not too long after I got her, I had half a grilled chicken grinder on the counter. I decided to finish it off, and there was Bosun, looking very pleased with herself, noshing on the chicken!

Yes cats can be food stealers. When Alani & Blaze were kittens they would get into all of my lower kitchen and hall bathroom cabinets. They would then pull things out and destroy them. I had to install child safety locks on all of the doors. Sometimes they're still able to pull things out if they can reach them. I then tell them that they must've been fishing again. Alani still loves to destroy any plastic or paper product so I have to be careful not to leave anything out. I can't even put the kitchen garbage can in the kitchen any more because they get into it or knock it over. It's now back in my bedroom where they aren't allowed. Sometimes I think I have a bunch of dogs not cats. I do watch my food too but I also have to watch my water or Rory or Sky will start drinking from my glass or even knock it over.

Great minds think alike! I was picturing this very same scenario!

I only ever had one cat thief - my RB Meezer Ming. I couldn't leave anything on the counter, or it would be his, tho he never learned how to open the microwave or fridge doors! He also helped himself to my spiked eggnog at a party we had here one year during the Christmas holiday. He slept very soundly that night!

Well that is just too funny! Your cat(s) are smart!

This is interesting because 2 of my 3 cats are completely not interested in people food at all. Buddy is the only one that eats people food. He has never stolen anything yet but he has put his paw in a glass of milk a couple times. He LOVES milk!

I hope your sweet babies do not end up burning themselves. I would be more worried about that than the actual stolen food.

Oh my goodness, Sparkle! Mum made a nice burger for you I laughed when I read this story!

One evening I was having friends over for supper. I had put a stick of butter on the table because one of my friends said she would bring home-baked bread. I went to the door to let them in and when we came in, guess who was on the table tasting the stick of butter. :embarrassment: I apologized and got out a fresh stick - my friends just laughed and said that's a pet for you.
