    .CPI Files problem

Some friends went away and left me their laptop. They have been taking videos and there are some .CPI files they simply cannot open.

    Neither can I.

I have Googled, posted on a tech forum, etc. None of the trial of freeware programs that say they can open them DO open them.

According to what I read there are several types of .CPI files - one of them is a high definition file.

Another type is a file associated with hi def but they are 'junk' files, left over from the recording process.

I am thinking that when they get back they should ask a store that carries the camera they are using or the place they bought it.

    Anyone? HELP.

    Thanks!

    .CPI is basically this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD

VLC can probably open it. If not, you'll have to find some way to convert it to a common format.

Thanks! VLC looks like it's worth a try. I did read about CPI on Wikipedia and anything else I could find. I'll let you know how it works.

I had hopes for VLC, but it didn't work.

Thanks so much for the suggestion, Colin. Now I know what those funny orange-and-white pylon icons are!
