Thread: New baby needs a name!

  1. #1

    New baby needs a name!

I recieved a lovely gift last week. I had offered one of my baby corn snakes in trade to someone else for one of theirs. That person turned down my offer because she is out of space for new animals, then countered by offering me one of her babies for free! I paid her for the shipping, and my new girl arrived a few days ago. CLICK HERE to see pictures of her color morph. Since she's still a baby she's currently a golden/tan, and as she gorws she will lighten and brighten in color until she's a vibrant, rich yellow.

These pictures are from Christen Malchow of Christen's Corns. I haven't taken any yet because as soon as her "settling in" period was over, I fed her and now I need to let her digest for a few days before I disturb her again. Oops!

I'm super indecisive about what to name her. Saffron and Citrine were names I really liked, but both of those are the names of other corn snake morphs, so that doesn't work at all! So I've been knocking around a variety of "yellow" names, and I'm open to suggestions too!

How about Poppy? The California Poppy grows wild on the hillsides and is a gorgeous sunny yellow-gold door in the spring! And she's a California snake, so maybe Poppy would work! Or Tansy, which is another yellow wildflower, and a pretty girlish name!

If you like the name saffron and citrine so much why not go with one of those in a different language. She really will look the color of saffron. Here is an Italian translation. It is cute too. Saffron in Italian is zafferano (zaf fer ran o) and a variation on citrine that is cute would be citrinella (chi tri nel la). She is beautiful btw.

    Here's yet another suggestion

How about Cornelia? A powerful (relatively, considering her gender) figure in Ancient Rome. Plus the name also seems to suit her elegance as all snakes (I don't know much about raising them) look elegant when they grow up. Please post the name that you choose!

One more suggestion - if you haven't already chosen a name for your baby

Yes, I've already suggested a name and clearly I need to get a life . But here's a name that IMHO would be perfect - Demeter, for the Corn Goddess in Greek mythology. 'Cause your baby's a corn snake. And you could call her Demi for short!

Oooh boy, so many names I like! I need to think on this some more... Thank you guys for all of the ideas! I especially like Poppy, and Demeter. I'll post up new pictures of her when I settle down with a name...

    Great minds think alike!!
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Have you named your pretty cornsnake yet?

  14. #14
After much thought, I've settled on Poppy. I believe this is a picture of her parents: (picture belongs to Christen Malchow. Mom is the big snake, Dad's the little one in the foreground!)

...and I think the rich color she will turn is very like the yellow at the edges of California poppies.

She'll have an intro thread along with my other new baby once I can get functional pics of 8" wiggly worms. -_-
