Sugar had the lavage procedure for her nasal polyp about 5 weeks back, and didn't seem to be recovering properly. She has a great deal of congestion, sneezing, bloody noses, and post nasal drip. Today we had a follow up with the specialist.
Friday she goes back to the specialist. She will have a dental, all teeth scaled and polished. The tooth he found dangling from a fine thread will be extracted, along with any others that need to be removed. He also noticed a rather large bump on her nose which was NOT there 5 weeks back. It "could" be an abcess, perhaps from the bad tooth. Or the polyp has developed a tumor which broke through the bone, which may be benign or malignant. The bump will be x-rayed and biopsied, and if anything in any of that suggests more work, she is right there with the specialist, to have it done.
I feel awful that I hadn't noticed this bump! I even groomed her the day before this visit, and I missed it completely! I showed Dad who said once you know it is there, it is hard to miss, but seeing it initially is not easy.
I am hoping and praying that I will pay a bit more to have the specialist do the dental, xrays and biopsy, and that all will be well.
The other option, to have the primary vet do the work now, would save me slightly (about $100) but then depending on the xrays and biopsy, she could need another procedure with the specialist, another time under anesthesia, how long would we wait to do that, etc. At age 14.5 years, I felt it was better to have her in the specialist's location just in case.
