    Captain - 19th July 1998 - 13th August 2011

    Dear PT'ers,

It has taken me this long to finally write this post without crying from the beginning........... or so I thought ..... the tears are here already

After 13 long years, we had to say good bye to my darlin old man. We had been struggling with the decision, hoping that he would pass in his sleep, without us having to intervene at all ......... but the stubborn old guy would NOT.

Captain was a stubborn, funny, determined, happy, sulky, smiley boy. He LOVED to go for walks, any place, any time and as often as possible. He didn't mind going to the Vet, and taught Murphy that grace!
We noticed him struggling about two years ago - getting older, but still determined to keep up with the young Murphy, and grumpy girl Ruby. He was still the boss, and made sure they all knew it. He was getting worse, and started to fall over when walking - almost like tripping over a stone (when there was nothing there), and I had him checked over by a specialist. He had degeneration of the spine, which didn't affect anything other than his balance. He had minimal arthritis, but we watched him struggle more and more, and eventually had to make the hard decision to help him on his way to the RB.

I still remember all the NAUGHTY things he did, even up to his old age, sneaking off with blankets, running around the house woooo'ing for his dinner and his LOVE of lying on the big bed!!! We had to help him up, but BOY oh BOY did he grumble when we tried to get him back OFF the big bed!!!

I miss him everyday, and am convinced I see him out the corner of my eye. Murphy still looks for him when we go on our walks, as Captain always walked at his own pace, a few good paces behind Ruby and Murphy. Murphy always went back to check on him, before bounding ahead. Ruby, who always grumbled and growled at Captain, was very subdued for weeks after we let him go. They have both adjusted to not having him here, but every now and again, I see them looking for him

We all miss him, everyday, still, but know that he is up at the RB playing with all the other PT doggies, and Phred.

Thanks for letting me share. I know you will all understand how heartbroken I am and why it took so long for me to actually put my feelings into words and let you know.

Awww, I am glad you were finally able to type this out, and fitting as November 1, tomorrow, is traditionally All Saints Day. And I picture him woooo-woooing up at the Rainbow Bridge, running with joy.

My heart goes out to you and you have my deepest sympathies. I know that Captain is running through beautiful fields now and frolicking along beaches without any pain. It is always so hard to lose a beloved pet and I know that Captain was a special one.

    Rest In Peace, Dear Captain.

    Hugs to you Michelle.

Carole, I'm so sorry for your loss. What a gorgeous boy Captain was. Try to picture him running across beautiful fields at the RB, and know he is free of pain. Keep the good memories and let Ruby and Murphy comfort you.

Rest in peace, Captain - you will be be in your mommy's heart forever.

    ((((hugs))))

Handsome Captain, the original spotty, you will never be forgotten and forever loved. Smile down on your mum for us, and look after her.

    Rest in peace, sweetheart.

So very sorry I love that first pic you chose. He looks so happy. I know how very hard it is to make that difficult decision. It tears your heart to pieces and nothing we say can make it easier. Captain was such a sweet dog. Please contact me if you ever want to talk.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

    Me too

I had wished my Graham dog would have pulled out of his fungal pneumonia with the mega dose of medication he was on, but he just declined to the point that he had no quality of life left, and keeping him with me was selfish. It's a horrible thing to go through and my heart goes out to you.

Just know that it will get easier with time (and I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, I don't go to PT as often as I used to). The pain will never go away, but it lessens and is replaced with happy memories.

I am sorry for your loss; not sure how I missed this first time through.

Captain was a PT regular, and enjoyed every moment of life. RIP Captain.
