Lily to the vet for her dental cleaning tomorrow

Please wish us luck for Lily's dental cleaning tomorrow. I'm a bit worried re. the anaesthesia as she's in a very early state of kidney failure. But I didn't want to put this off any longer. One of her molars isn't looking too good, so it definitely needs a treatment, and when I wait until her kidneys are worse, things may be even more complicated. I hope she'll be fine!

I'm sure she'll do fine. Storm's had his teeth cleaned several times without any problems and he's older than Lily. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent her way.

Tracey, hope you're right! Glad to hear that Storm didn't have any problems. I know someone whose cat died after the dental cleaning, and that cat was also dealing with a kidney condition (but worse than Lily's).

Her appointment is tomorrow at 9:30 am; I hope I can stay with her while they're doing it...

Kirsten, I know you are worried, and I would be, too, but Lily is not that old.

My best wishes that her teeth cleaning will go smoothly - and Fister sends purrs.

I will keep Lily in my thoughts tomorrow at 9.30 and send good vibes.

Oh btw, will you ask your vet which kind of anaesthesia he gives her? My vet says there are three kinds, and one should be good for older cats.

Sending prayers and good wishes and warm healing energies to Lily with her dental surgery!

Thank you very much for keeping my Lily in your thoughts! I will give you an update tomorrow.

Randi, I will ask her re. the kind of anaesthesia.

BTW, Lily will hate to have no breakfast tomorrow! Since I started feeding them a little "pre-breakfast meal" due to Luna's stomach problems, Lily developed this bad habit of begging loudly for food at 5 am! Guess I better go to bed now to get enough sleep before she starts complaing in the early morning hours! lol

Okay, here's the update: She's fine!!

Of course she was wobbly and dizzy for a couple of hours, but recovered surprisingly quickly! She even wanted to eat, and kept it down. I'm only feeding her small amounts right now, even though she would eat more, if she could.

Luna hissed at her when we came back, and was grumpy for the rest of the day, but now she seems to have calmed down.

I'm really surprised how well Lily was coping with the anaesthesia; it's much worse for Luna; always has been.

Randi, I asked what kind of anaesthesia they gave her, it's Ketamin and Vetranquil.

Thanks for asking, Kirsten. Soon, it will be Fister's time for a teeth cleaning.

I'm glad Lily is OK. I assume she didn't have any teeth extracted. Now, she'll have to catch up on the food she missed yesterday.

Give her and Luna some kisses from me.

No, she didn't! It turned out that only one molar was looking really bad, but it could be saved. Just looked at her teeth, and I'm very pleased to see how nice and clean they are looking now!

I'm so glad to hear that her dental went well. So do you think that your girls would ever let you brush their teeth? I've been doing it with all of my cats once a week for quite a while now. They don't like it but they've learned to tolerate it.

I've tried that many years ago, but they didn't tolerate it at all, so I gave up eventually. I'm regretting that now; Lily's teeth look so white and new right now that it's a shame not to keep them clean!
