When California surfer Dan Murphy hopped on his board the other day, he had no idea what he was getting into. What was supposed to be just another day out on the water ended up being an emotional experience that will last him a lifetime.
While waiting for a swell, he felt something come up from behind.

At first, he thought he was being attacked, but fear quickly subsided once he realized that it was just a baby sea lion looking for a hug.
"I'll never let go, Dan!"
For the next hour, Murphy let the whiskered pup ride along with him.

He suspects that this particular baby is a graduate of a rehabilitation program, because the animal's comfort far surpassed what is normal for a wild animal.
When it was time to paddle in, things got emotional...
In tears, Murphy nudged his new friend back into the water and said goodbye. Maybe he'll run into the friendly creature someday soon. Though, even if he doesn't, he's experienced something so incredible that he'll be able to carry with him forever.
Few people can say they've surfed with sea lions, but, surprisingly, Murphy isn't alone...
