Cinder and Smoke Meet New Vet

Cinder's eye started weeping the other day so I decided it was time for the pups to meet their new vet. Boy, were they excited when they found out they got to go in the car with me and Dominic. Of course, they are use to sharing the back seat with other dogs not a little boy in a car seat so they didn't know what to make of this new development. I thought I heard Cinder whisper something to Smoke about "bad nuff to share with udder mutts but why did dis mutt have to have his own seat?" Smokey said something to Cinder about her big butt so I got out of the car and put Cinder in the front seat. They weren't sure where we were going but they sure were happy to be in the car again.

However as we pulled into the parking lot there seemed to be some complaint that that was an awful short ride and where had I brought them. Then "do you tink we get to go in dis place - maybe it's a new place to buy us some food an biskits." So out we all hopped and into the white coats we go. We had to wait a few minutes before the vet could see us but the pups still weren't sure where we were and did a lot of sniffing and looking around. When we finally got to go into the examining room, I heard a "woohoo, she's a lot purtier than our old vet, Dr. Mike" And Cinder said that she gave great skritches behind the ears but she was feeling fine what were we doing at the white coats and she better not be planning to stick her with any of those pointy things.

The scale was the first check and both had gained a little weight since the last time they were at the vets last May. Dr. James said that both were doing great as weight goes and that the slight gain was just fine.

Dr. James looked through the records to see what Dr. Mike had to say about the puppers and especially if there was anything in the notes about Cinder's eyes. Well, it seems as though Cinder had some trouble with a weeping right eye a few years ago and it was treated with steroids. She was also sent to a specialist to make sure everything was okay and it was - for about a year she had trouble with that eye but then it seemed to clear up and there has been no problem since. Dr. James used a stick with some coloring junk on it, called a stain that turned the tears in her eye an awful bright green which showed that the eye was not scratched so she gave us a steroid to clear up the eye. We also talked about Cinder's hypothyroidism.

Cinder was next and she said he too was in great health. She could feel a little arthritis in her back knees but nothing to be worried about. She said it was obvious they were well loved and cared for. She also mentioned that she would not have believed that they are 10 and 11. They have none of the age bumps that appear on older dogs and are very peppy for their ages.

However when she checked their teeth, she had some bad news. Both need their teeth cleaned but Smokey has some very bad teeth that need pulled as they have to be causing him pain. One front one is very loose and needs to come out. He has 3 back ones that will probably need pulled - right now there is a lot of tartar on them so she will know more after she starts to work on them. So on Tuesday, Smokey will be having his dental work done so please keep him and me (I am very worried especially since they just joined our family)in prayer. If all four teeth are pulled it's going to be a little costly but fortunately there is more than enough in the Cinder and Smoke Care Fund to handle it and Cinder's when I set her appointment. They don't need to have their shots until May.

Everyone in the office commented on how well behaved and sweet they were and I was very proud to be their new mommy!

It's funny, but I have been thinking about the doggers lately and was going to post requesting an update on their progress and how they were settling in their new home.

And there you have it - exactly what I wanted to read - an update on the pups.

I am really glad that the eye can be treated with drops. I am sure that Smoke won't be thrilled about the surgery, but he will be feeling so much better once those bad teeth are extracted.

I would imagine that Cinder and Smoke feel the same way about you Diana, they are proud to show you off to the vets - their new Mom!!

Thanks for taking such good care of them both. Please give them some loving from me.

Aww, such good pups they are! I'm so glad to hear they're healthy and Cinder's eye has cleared up. I'm sure Smoke will feel better after the teeth come out.

Sending my best wishes and thanks again for taking them in, Diana and Carl.

    In general, good news!

Weepy eye, good name for it. Prayers that the drops clear it up and this isn't another year long nuisance (that's what it sounded like, a nuisance thing, not serious but won't clear up).

And the teeth well, at this age, I guess if that is the only thing needing attention, we need to be happy with that!

The vet will likely tell you, but if he has as many as 4 teeth out, Smoke will appreciate some soft food for a couple of days after wards (baby food, canned etc). Not sure if you normally keep any in stock.

YAY! for a mostly good vet visit, boo! for bad toofs. Fingers crossed that all will go well. I still owe a contribution to the Cinder and Smoke care fund. Will get that taken care of.

So glad to hear an uppydate on the puppers. Not so glad Smoke has to have teeth pulled. I hope you will let us know if there isn't enough money in the fund to cover it. I only gave a small contribution (did you get it?) and would gladly give more if needed.
Just reading your post brought tears to my eyes all over again.
