Here's that very obedient doggie, Jasper. Isn't he a cutie.

Oh, how cute! Jaspar and Jonah look so happy together. And Jaspar sounds so well behaved. When I go to let all the dogs out into my back yard, all of them race outside except Smokey. He stands there looking at you until you tell him it is okay to go out - then out he goes. He will come back in when the others do but he does not bark to get in. One night shortly after we brought them home, I couldn't find him. He hadn't come in when the others did. When I opened the door, there he was on the step, just waiting to be let in. Now I make sure he is in because he sure won't tell you he wants in!

Both of them are adorable - thanks for sharing with us. And thanks to liz for posting the pictures.

Jasper has the same sort of I really don't want to bother anyone look in his eyes that our cat Duffy has.

You think someone told Smokey to be a very good boy? How about Cinder?

Jasper is such a cutie. With those looks and that disposition I'm sure it's very easy to him.

They are! You should see the conflict in Jasper when Jonah goes running off one way, and I start the other way, directing Jasper to 'come'. Frankly, I lose nearly every time. And, I am okay with that. After all I do for that dog (and that kid), every night- after his last trip outside- he goes to Jonah with his tail a'waggin, looking for his last biscuit. I am definitely second fiddle. Or, third???

Jonah & Jasper - a boy and his dog. Doesn't get much sweeter than that!

And Jasper certainly does look like a real sweetheart - just a laid-back, content with his world kind of guy. Looks like you've got yourself a couple of real gems in those two boys! How lucky can you get..........

If the dog door is not open all the time then Jasper is being very smart by waiting for you to tell him when it is open and he is able to use it. He has learned that it does not feel or look good to walk into a locked door and it is safer to get the boss to verify it is unlocked before pushing through it.

I don't have an answer but thoroughly enjoyed your post! I am just picturing this dog sitting on the patio waiting to be invited in. How adorable! And I am just now seeing his picture before I finish my post!

We had a black Lab named Jasper once and he was a big LOVE but slightly mentally limited.

I hope you figure it out and he learns to use the door. I like to think he is just VERY polite!

Hello, I just read the entire Thread. You sure have a smart well behaved dog and the pics are so cute. To me, he looks like a beagle. I certainly am not an expert but I think when you let him/ invite him out, then he expects you to let him/ invite him back in. He's very smart. Kay in NC, cloudy 45
