    Feline CRF

http://www.felinecrf.org/ - my cat also had CRF and this site was extremely helpful - there is also a yahoo group run by the person who did the site with lots of members who are so knowledgeable, even more than alot of vets, I kid you not. My Beyli was on Fortekor (Benazepril) and Famotidine (antacid) daily and also SubQs a few times a week. This treatment gave him a quality of life he would not have had otherwise, and essentially kept him alive without pain. Just like we take some meds to assist us with our medical issues - I was not prolonging his suffering, he played and ate and enjoyed his life right until the end. Cats can live with CRF for many years so please don't let the vet tell you otherwise.
Please have your pets sterilized as soon as possible to lower, and one day hopefully eliminate, unwanted and abandoned pets. It IS our responsibility. Adopting from a shelter also helps - encouraging breeders just adds to the overpopulation.

    Angel Beyli's Mom thanks you!

    Crf

I'll second a few others' words-- I've had several "elderly" cats with CRF who lived LONG and happy lives with sub-cu. fluids and occasionally meds- two Siamese, especially, who were my parents' cats and whom I inherited when my parents passed on- one came down with CRF at age 14, the other at 16- the first lived happily til 19, the second to 20-1/2, and at OVER AGE 20 the second one climbed a tree in the back yard! They were happy, active girls their whole lives. THERE IS LOTS OF HOPE for long, happy, good-quality life for cats with CRF- I wish your Woody all the hope there is-

Hello there handsome! Happy Cat of the Day to you Woody, THE BEST CAT EVER!!! First thing I noticed was how tall you are! hehe You're a giant amongst kitties, in more way than one! What a wonderful, heartwarming story your Mommy has shared with us, Woody! But of course you're weren't going anywhere; not once your Mommy looked into those beautiful eyes of yours! We thank her so much for coming to your rescue! And in return, what joy and love you've brought to her life, and the lives of her many other rescues, these many years! You truly are the Cat of a Lifetime, Woody! I'm a little sad to hear of your recent health challenges. I hope and pray with all my might that you are doing well. Of course your Mommy will do all in her power to keep you healthy, and keep her with you for many years to come. And I hope and pray you will continue to do well! Your story, your precious photo brought a big smile to my face tonight, Woody! My wish for you is a very happy (late night) of celebration with your proud Mommy, and more importantly, many more happy, love filled years together! Congratulations and bunches of hugs and kisses to you precious Woody, our very special and MOST deserving honoree!!!

Woody!!! What beautiful eyes you have!!! I was going to suggest the same site that was mentioned in another post. I have had several cats that were kidney AND hyperthyriod cats. Be a good fellow if you have to take pills and get sub q fluids...HAPPY COTD!!

What a handsome boy you are, Woody! I'll bet that the Chicago Cubs could use you on their roster- you probably have a higher batting average than a lot of them!

Have a wonderful COTD day today, and be a good boy about taking your pills! They work wonders for your thyroid and kidneys, as our cat Bessie can attest- she's still going strong at age 18!

Hello Woody! I must tell you, I had to click on your photo because it looked so much like my gal, Sparkle. And guess what? Sparkle has lived with me 13 years as of yesterday! Reading about you, the personalities are quite similar as well. Sparkle has patiently tolerated me bring cat after kitten in to join our home, or passing through when I volunteered with feral cat rescue. She never raised a paw, either!

My cat Chestnut, came to me at 1 pound, and he is truly Sparkle's cat. She was 2 years old when I found him and brought him in. (He was my 4th cat at that time). She taught him all the important stuff -- how to use a litter box, how to play -- an all the naughty stuff too.

So you do have a cat "twin" out here lol

You were very lucky to be found by such a wonderful person those 13 years back. Prayers for you to respond to the medications and continue that long relationship.

And sending chin rubs to you, to celebrate this honor as our Cat of the Day!

That Halloween was your lucky day Woody, and haven't you given so much in return over the years. I think it is wonderful of you to allow these other rescues into your home for a while. What a kind boy! I am completely under your spell.

Many congratulations to you on being our adorable Cat of the Day.
