    Ted Kennedy has died.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32491712/?gt1=43001

For many years TK was a 'news byte' and a very symbolic icon.

You could feel sorry for him because of the familial 'bad luck', then he had his own problems and kept a low profile for the last 40 years?

A sad and troubled legacy. You might compare him to some other politicians/star that have run afoul of law, then went on to lead a "normal" life.

    RIP dude.

    Nancy Pelosi.

    Sailing in Heaven

    Senator Kennedy might have made some mistakes along his life's path;
But he did an awful lot of GOOD Stuff, too.

I wish to remember all the Good Things he did ... I can overlook the not-so-good.

I'll bet he's already got his sailboat on the water under The Bridge.

    Smooth Sailing, Good Sir!

A complex man. One who made his own rules in his personal life but managed to show up for church every Sunday so he could ask for forgivness for his sins, which were many. And yet he did do many good things, he was very human. We sin on Sat night so we can go to church and be saved on Sunday morning. Mary Jo's family still greives for her.
Do all his good works erease her death? If it was my child I would say no. To all those he helped perhaps their answer would be different.
He certaintly had his share of sorrow and responsibitity. JFK and BK's children only had uncle Teddy to help them. I have read quite a few books on the family and it's very complex his good side and his shall we say lusty side fought a battle almost daily.

Regardless of our party affiliation, or our personal feelings about how he lived his private life, I don't think there is anyone who could deny the fact that he was one hell of a senator!

RIP Ted Kennedy. You will be missed.

So we are going to rehash a 40 year old crime and rub salt into that wound?
He was a great senator. Everyone of us lives a better life because of what he did.

    Godspeed.

Once again I get my news from Pet Talk first.

The man was not a saint, nor was he a devil, but he was a human being, with all the flaws and triumphs that come with being human. Being a part of that family, his life was largely played on the public screen, where everything is magnified, for good or ill.

And he was my senator, for quite literally my whole life. By the time I was old enough to vote, he had already been in office so long as to be virtually untouchable in terms of elections. It will be interesting to see what happens now.

In any case, he leaves quite a legacy.

I was 11 when he was first elected to the Senate. 47 years is a heck of a long time to be at one job!

He was like the rest of us, neither all bad or all good. I hope he is at peace now. The final chapter of Camelot has been written.

What rock have you been living under??? He did more in one lifetime,
than most do if they lived ten lives. He was always a real powerhouse in the
US Senate. Ted Kennedy, low profile?? Never happened.

    Oops, Sorry!

I didn't mean to offend your sense of history. I had an incomplete thought.

You can finish the thought that is on my mind at the moment, Thanks.

P.S. Clean it up a bit, no?

    Public or private life???

Yes, I too believe that he assumed a "lower than previous" profile in regard to his private life. It wasn't all that often that we heard of events in his private life in later years, but you always heard of his work in the Senate and for the people he represented.

  14. Well he did run for president in the last 40 years which is sort of high profile.

He spoke a year ago to the day at the Democratic Convention. Not terribly low profile...

And of course...gave the Obamas Bo...

He did for more than just the people he represented. If you are or have been in the military, public schools, earn wages, are on social security or medicare you have benefited from the legacy of Ted Kennedy!

Richard, I am sorry that I hurt your feelings. Can you tell I really admired this man? He was a human being like you & I, but he did manage to rise above his human failings. He contributed so much to make life better for all citizens.
