Lady passed away today. She was my parents' dog but still a part of my life as I saw her on visits to them. Lady was a fluffy, black Lab. I thought she looked like a miniature Newfoundland. She was sweet and gentle - except for that nasty aversion to all things feline! It was so funny that Lady never walked in front of you, always behind you. She definitely let you be pack leader. Didn't love the leash though; like many country dogs, she had the run of the yard and luckily never strayed away from the property.
I loved you Lady as if you were my own and wish I had assumed the responsibility of your vet care. My parents are country folk who don't adhere to the practice of regular health care for the dog. Food, shelter, rabies vac is about it. Even still, you were part of the family for over 11 years, from puppyhood to adulthood. I'll never forget you and hope you made it across the Rainbow Bridge and will get a chance to take a dip in the pool (she loved the water) and remember that you were and still are loved. Be kind to the cats up there, kiddo. Miss you.
