    Plott Hound owners?

A few people now have asked if Verde was a Plott Hound. Her ears and muzzle dont match a Plott Hound but her body, coloring, and temperment are close.

Do Plott Hounds have a double coat? I thought she was a Grey Hound/Pit Bull mix, but niether breed has a double cout like she does.

There doesnt seem to be any PH breeders in AK but that doesnt exlude the breed from her mix.

Ive posted her pics before but here they are again. Im interested if she could be part Plott Hound.

I am not familiar with plott hounds but I googled them and she does look like one. Whatever she is she is 100 percent adorable and we need more pics of her.

I went through alot of Google pics on PHs too. Her ears dont match and her muzzle is a little off and from what Ive read a double coat isnt the norm but it isnt unheard of.

Yesterday I chatted with my cousin who used to breed Plott Hounds & Redbones. He said none of his dogs have ever had double coats.

Labs have double coats, though, and they are usually a staple in large mutts around here. Maybe Verde has Lab in her somewhere down the line?

Either way, she is a very pretty dog.

I would guess your lovely Verde as Plott Hound/German Shepherd. Her tail fur especially looks Shepherd influenced, and that would account for her ears almost wanting to be "up" ears, and a thick coat. The Plott would account for her coloring, and the fact that her ears want to be "down" ears as well, and for the deeper muzzle than many Shepherds ...

The fun of a rescue dog is the mystery!

And, of course most important is that she is 100% loved dog!

That's what I was thinking, too! Verde is beautiful! I like her pretty coat pattern. I like the picture where she is upside-down on the sofa!

    What a cutie!

To be honest I don't see plott hound. I see mountain cur and maybe American Pit bull terrier.

    Wow-similar dog

I have a dog that looks very similar...we cannot figure out what she is either. We got her from the pound here in Pennsylvania and they had her listed as a terrier (pit bull I guess)/dalmation mix. Our vet suspects that she is a greyhound/ lab mix. That might make sense but she is only 40 lbs so those dogs would make her larger I would have thought. I have found info on plott hounds and it seems very siliar to her in personality and size but her ears and mouth are a little different. I don't know if we'll ever know what she is but we love her anyway
Here are some pictures of our girl:

    Do Dalmations have double coats?

Ive read that some Plott Hounds do have double coats and that it isnt considered a fault.

The body for the Dutch shepherd is a bit thicker, and they dont hold their tails the same way Verde does. Ill try and see if there are any Dutch Shepherds in the area just in case.

Alot of rare breeds arent found in Alaska, so I am back to leaning towards a Greyhound/Pitbull mix, with something else to account for her double coat.

ETA: Skeeter, Verde gives me that same smirk in your second pic in post #8.

Blue-I just love my girl-she gives the best looks and has a great personality! I was amazed how many of your pictures reminded me of her. Especially the last picture you have of Verde laying upside down. Ayla lays like that all the time when she is really happy or being silly

    Love plotthounds

Your dog could definitely be part Plotthound. Don't see it in Skeeter though - other than the coat coloring.
