The two soldiers from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, who were killed on 31 August, have been identified.

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of Sergeant Stuart Millar, age 40, and Private Kevin Elliott, age 24, of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The soldiers were killed as a result of an explosion believed to have been caused by a rocket-propelled grenade when they were attacked by insurgents whilst patrolling on foot in Babaji District, Helmand Province on the morning of Monday 31 August 2009.

I would like to send out another big thank you, Grace. Reading this thread is heartbreaking. It's about time that we, as Americans, can see in print, the loss of human life that's occurring and kept almost silent. Bless you.

May all of our fallen troops Rest In Peace.

I feel awful for their families. As we can see, not a day goes by that we don't lose precious life.

    I've been Boo'd...
    Thanks Barry!

    From the United Kingdom

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a soldier from 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment was killed in Afghanistan today, Thursday 3 September 2009.

The soldier, operating with The Light Dragoons Battle Group, died as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained whilst on a foot patrol in the Babaji district, central Helmand province.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, said:

"This brave soldier died bringing a better life to the people of Afghanistan. We mourn his loss and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time. His loss has not been in vain."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
