Rottie,
Are you keeping tabs on this? Wouldn't it be fun to know who is winning? If I tried to keep track, it would be like counting votes in Florida...no one could trust it!

Interesting responses. According to the AKC, the top 5 breeds 1999 are:
1. Labs (past 7 years #1)
2. Goldens
3. Shepherds
4. Daschunds
5. Beagles
Surprised that only 2 people other than myself even named a lab at all; only Starlite mentioned daschunds or beagles. Forgot to put Beagles on my list!!

(Not in any particular order)
1. Akita
2. Norwich
3. Poodle
4. GSD
5. lab/GSD mix
1. Siberian husky
2. Border Collie
3. Doberman
4. Golden retriever
5. Great Dane
O.K., here's my go at it. Being a dog trainer, I also prefer dogs that listen, but I also like dogs that love me too!
1. Papillon
2. Standard or Miniature Poodle
3. Golden Retriever
4. Border Collie
5. Shetland Sheepdog
6. Boxer
7. Rottweiler
8. Doberman
Even though I only had five to choose from, I had to add three more. The Boxer, Rottie and Dobie may be too big for me, but they are wonderfully trainable and devoted family members! I know, I know, the boxer is no bigger than the golden (maybe taller) or standard poodle, but between these three, the golden and poodle win in trainability: they almost train themselves.
