    When Frontline doesn't work.

    NOW what do we do?

I've frontlined the cats on Tuesday and just saw a dirty little bugger flea crawling on Kylie.
Should I bathe her to get rid of them? I can't frontline her again for another month.

How long does it take to work? Is it suppose to be 24 hours like Advantage or does Frontline take a little longer. Anyway, I know people here have given kittens baths with Dawn dish detergent to get rid of fleas. Maybe you could bathe her with that or maybe you just need to give it a few more days.

They say that it takes three days to work. After that, generally, they start dropping off or you will find them dead and such. I know that when I dose my critters they like to flee (hehe. get it? flee, flea. ) the immediately dosed area for a while then they aren't around at all, generally, after that period of a few days.

If that doesn't work then maybe try some home remedies for fleas? Dosing them more than once could be harmful, I imagine.

I'd go with Capstar now and switch to Advantage the next go 'round in case the varmits have become resistant.

Staci, I have never used Frontline because my vet recommended Advantage. I have found that it really works on the three kids!!

Bathing the cats is like putting your hand down the disposal

I only use Advantage also and I'm satisfied with the results. If you're still seeing fleas, then it's probably ones that have been hiding in carpet or furniture, but if they're on the cat now, they will die from the Frontline. Since it's only been a couple of days since you started the treatment, don't give a bath too soon as it will wash it away. Also, don't dose more than once a month.

    1) Be sure the BRD isn't giving the critters refuge or transportation around the house.

    2) You need to check the HOUSE!

YEARS ago somebody (2 Dawgs or a Kat) brought home some flea critters!
We made the Animals flea-free with new "Flea Collars" (don't laugh -
that's the way we did 'flea control' back in the Dark Ages!)

A week later *I* was getting bit up whenever I sat in one of the living room
'kliner chairs. Some research (without benefit of the I-net ) suggested
that the HOUSE (carpets) or FURNITURE ('kliner chairs) were able to host
the critters if there wasn't a warm-blooded meal to enjoy.

We got some "spray" from Farm Bureau and sprayed the furniture and all the
places the Dawgs liked to lounge in - locked da poor KAT in the bathroom
so she didn't breathe the fumes, and vacated the house with the Dawgs for a day.

The Ranch *STUNK* for a week or more; but the critters stopped eating
    2-Legger legs and ankles!

Call the OSU Extension Service (in Upper) at (419) 294-4931 -
They should have some info and ideas.

We use Revolution. I know it's probably more expensive, but it takes care of everything - fleas, ear mites, worms. And it does work.

I buy it online from Canada, and they don't require a prescription, and are quite a bit cheaper than from my Vet.

The BRD has been Advantaged instead of Frontlined b/c it was cheaper.
The floor is being treated overnight.
I'm hoping the little bloodsuckers die a slow painful death!

i use a flea comb (check through the hairs as best as i can ) while mike holds the suspected flead cat.
if i really think they have some though i will use any brand that looks safe.
i wish i knew which was the safest one to use.
they get in even if their indoor cats, through the screens...mostly the bottom part of the screen or where the cats clawed the screen leaving nice little claw holes for little bugs/mites? to get in,even from your shoes from outdoors.

Thank You Kim for this wonderful siggy

WE USE ADVANTAGE AND OUR VET SELLD US THE DOG SIZE, SO WE ARE CAREFUL WITH THE DOSAGE , AND ITS MORE COST EFFECTIVE THAN BUYING INDIVIDUAL CAT PORTIONS.
WE GOT 6 POUCHES , ABOUT 24 CAT DOSES FOR 96 DOLLARS, INDIVIDUAL CAT DOSES WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER 225 DOLLARS.

    when frontline doesn't work

frontline takes 24hrs to get into the cats system, after that you may still notice the fleas fall off and jump to there deaths for around seven days. a constant regeime of hoovering to finish the job is always required.
