    Language software

Does anyone have any reccomendations for language software? I have 1.5 years and I would love to have a basic working knowledge of German and French before I go.
I have heard great things about Rosetta Stone but it costs a FORTUNE!! I am looking for something a little less expensive

I would hate for anything to happen to your software! If you can just tell me what you have I can track it down myself

Would I still be able to get around if I only had a working knowledge of one dialect?

Yes once you know the basic you will be ok.. Your in Luck == the Southwest side of Germany will be German & prob Dutch.. See Luxemburg is Dutch.. Ask Lut = I think she speaks Dutch.. The only part of Germany to worry of the Dialect so off is the very up north which is Bavarian.. Barvarian is spoken also in Austria.. Now that is a hard Dialect..

In that region it will be German and French. Luxemburg is not Dutch but Luxemburgish which is a German dialect, but also French.
Bavarian dialect is spoken in the South and it is similar to Austrian dialect.
Some dialects in the area of Trier and Saarbrücken are difficult to understand but many people will speak a little English- although not so much on the French Border.
